It saddens my heart that women’s gymnastics ended last night in the 2012 London games. Our girls had an amazing run, and I can’t express how proud of them I am! One of the most heartbreaking moments was McKayla Maroney’s stunning fall during the Vault competition. Arguably the best vaulter in the world, McKayla’s blunder caused her to drop to second place and receive a silver medal. While she was a good sport about it, someone found the inopportune moment to create a great Tumblr with her priceless expression.
McKayla was not the happiest when she found out she received silver, and that was a bit apparent during the medal ceremony. While I think that facial expression was really to halt tears, people made the most of the assumed hilarity of it all. Now, that face seems to be ‘popping up’ in tons of different locations looking every bit not impressed.

I don’t think her expression is one of disappointment. It looks more like a petulant ‘I should have gotten the gold even if I didn’t do so well’ expression. And if that expression really was how she thinks ‘disappointment’ is supposed to look, then she needs to look into globally accepted facial expression meanings, and possibly hand gestures as well.

@Jenshu7@xanga - I don’t know, probably not disappointment, but it looks like a face someone makes when they are upset with themselves but are trying to keep it together. I’d be pretty frustrated with myself if I fell on my ass and lost my chance at Olympic gold. Last night I was watching I was watching the 1500 meter and one of the US women fell for the second time in a major competition and just hit the ground and started bawling.

I did watch it and though she was a good sport about receiving silver, that facial expression isn’t really great. If I hadn’t watched it, I would say judging by her facial expression that she was spoiled.
