Hollywood special effects make up artists are like magicians. They spend hours applying loads of make up and prosthetic noses, chins etc. to movie stars; Turning the actor into the character they are playing. Making more of an impact visually than the actor ever could on their own (Heath Ledger could have never looks so ugly and creepy without the help of some pretty serious make up artists).
The special effects make up world is more serious that you’d think….there is even a publication dedicated solely to the art of special effects make-up (it’s called Fangoria if you’re interested). Here are some before and after shots of special effects make up that you might find familiar.

It’s amazing what special effects can do.. It’s funny, though, cuz even with all the makeup you can still see a little bit of the actor’s features.
What movie is the guy with the alien wearing goggles from? I’ve never seen that one.
