As the new release of the movie Total Recall is still fresh in theatres, many fans of the original are running to see the movie. Still, some people are rumoring that the remake— is just not as good as the first.
However, this movie remake isn’t the first to go through the process of a redo. Although not all were successful, fans of these movies were still ecstatic to have an opportunity to see their favorites again – in a different version.
Another movie that had a great remake last year was the popular The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo – which was almost as amazing as the book (in my opinion).
Check out the gallery for other great (and some not-so-great) remakes of our favorite movies!
Are you a fan of remade movies or do you think they should stop while they are ahead?

I only saw Charlie & the Chocolate Factory & Freaky Friday out of the movies listed. C&TCF was ok but I like the Willy Wonka one better. To be honest, it’s a bit unfair to compare the two because the first one is a light hearted family musical. Tim Burton is known for making darker movies but it was still nice.
Freaky Friday was AWESOME!! It was well scripted & acted & got great reviews. Jamie Lee Curtis even got a Golden Globe nomination for the movie! Some people seem to forget the 1995 tv movie version of Freaky Friday that aired quite frequently in the 90s. I LOVED that one as a kid too. I hope it’s out on DVD someday so I can add it to my Freaky Friday collection! I have the original & the 2003 version.

Arnie IS Douglas Quaid. Colin Farrell is a weenie.
Also there’s rumors that a Blade Runner sequel is in the works which I would be okay with, provided it’s not a remake. Replacing Harrison Ford as Rick Deckard would be absolutely sacrilegious.

Freaky Friday was re-made a few times over the years, as Disney TV movies. I Jamie Lee Curtis version the best. Every other remake can go fuck themselves. Gently. With a chainsaw.

i didn’t even bother seeing the new Footloose, it looked bad just from the previews. Freaky Friday is still one of my faves though, it was back when Lohan’s acting was great! And who doesn’t love Jamie Lee Curtis?! Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was good as well, as someone mentioned before, it can’t really be compared to Willy Wonka because Charlie was a much darker version of the film. Both were great though.

Almost as amazing as the book?
“We Can Remember it for You Wholesale” – Philip K. Dick, 1966.
I’ll be sacrilegious, but it is true… the new Ocean’s 11 is better than the original. Too bad they had to make some terrible sequels. I suppose the new Casino Royale is better too, but the original was a comedy/parody thing, not really based off the Fleming novel.
Man, we need an In Like Flint remake. Starring uh… Sean Bean as Flint, Olivia Wilde as The Babe.
That’s my idea, copyright it. Call me, Paramount. I’ll even write the script for you.

Most are a shameless attempt to make some money (and, if I might add, executed without care or love for the original.)
Though there are those that get it right. Fright Night, the classic camp horror movie was redone amazingly to fit in with a 21st Century audience without losing it’s camp-style. Then again the script was written by the same guy who did the first so the people behind it obviously knew what they were doing.
Also I agree with the other comments about the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movies. You simply cannot compare the two. The first is a musical classic (done fantastically for it’s time) and the second is a Tim Burton signature style.
