Olympic gold medal winner Ryan Lochte has (naturally) been getting lots of recent attention. And not all of it is good; first he almost lost his medal for wearing grillz at the award ceremony, and then his mom mentioned something about him having lots of one night stands in an interview! Lochte’s talent and good looks can only go so far, and now he’s revealed some rather crass information about his swimming habits! I wonder if he’s going to lose any fans over this info…
I’m sure plenty of people pee in the pool. (I don’t, I promise.) It’s just a fact that everyone conveniently ignores when going for a dip, but no one over the age of five usually admits to taking a tinkle in the water. But Lochte did! This morning Ryan Seacrest asked him if the swimmers pee in the pool. His response? “Of course. I think there’s just something about getting into chlorine water that you just automatically go. [I didn't] during the races, but I sure did in warm-up.”
I think my biggest fear about peeing in an Olympic swimming pool would be that the cameras would catch it! Could you even imagine if the whole world caught you dirtying up the water? I wonder if Ryan’s fellow athletes will be swimming near him anytime soon. [via Buzzfeed]
What do you think of Lochte’s admission?

Considering that Olympian tinkle is nectar of the gods we should all consider ourselves blessed to be in the same pool.

apparently the majority of “higher level” (think university level+) swimmers pee in the pool – no big, that’s why they have filters right?
guest
Ewe! They have shown every single swimmer put that water in their mouth too…
guest
I guess that’s how he relieves himself of the stress lol.
Really gross though.

@JoeytheGenie@xanga - How about visiting the pottie before getting into the pool. That will cut down the load on the filters thus reducing the Olympian sized carbon footprint.
guest
@PrisonerxOfxLove@xanga - I highly doubt that would cut down the filter usage but clever line!
I don’t swim but I kind of get why they do this, apparently swimmers can have over 3 pool workouts a day and to get in and out of the pool just b/c they need to pee during an interval is just a hassle and detrimental to training

@JoeytheGenie@xanga - Then carry a bottle.

He’s so good looking but seems dumb as rocks. Shame.

That’s just gross. I swim almost every day and I never feel the need to pee in a pool. I mean, really, what does it say about you as a person if you jump at the first chance you get to wet yourself in public without people knowing?
guest
They should do what they do in some public pools – have something in the water so it goes purple when someone pees in it.

Ok well anyone who can read should already know that urine is sterile unless you have a UTI or something. And if you say you never peed in the pool then you are a liar. Oylmpians are people too. If you get worked up over this, then you need to get your priorities straight.
guest
I’m convinced that Ryan Lochte is almost always high out of his mind. I watched an interview he did last night on NBC and he had to be on cloud nine because he was making no sense.

If peeing in the pool is good enough for Ryan Lochte, it’s good enough for me

When my sister was in track she knew this girl that used to pee her pants every time she ran a race. I think that is a lot worse than peeing while swimming and a lot more noticeable.

He’s only being honest… lol

Why in the world would his mother say he has a lot of one night stands? How does she know that? Does she knows what it means???

Minus the excellent swimmer part, the only thing this guy has going for him is his smile.
guest
Eww.. well, at least it’s sterile.
@Love_never_fails - Actually, I’ve honestly never peed in a pool. Lakes, sure, but that’s moving water.

@TiredSoVeryTired@xanga - Right?? I totally thought the article was going to be about that XD

It’s just gross. And I don’t think it’s normal for grown adults to pee in the pool, let alone talk about it if they do. Bathrooms are usually quite close to pools, so how hard is it to just hop out and go?
guest
I always just assume someone has peed in the pool. You know no pool is pee free.
guest
Who cares about peeing in a swimming pool? Seriously, it won’t do anyone harm. And about losing fans, didn’t Phelps lose alot of those too? Look at where he is at now.
guest
Pretty much all the swimmers pee in the pool. They are in the water for hours on end in practice and warm-ups. Getting out of the pool to pee takes up too much time and a lot of coaches actually forbid them from getting out to go to the bathroom unless they have to poop.
Urine is sterile and the water is chlorinated. What’s the big deal?
guest
umm yes, this is true. as an ex D1 collegiate swimmer who swam at meets with many of those olympic swimmers, I would say 90% of high level swimmers pee in the pool. actually, the higher you go, the more that pee! I would just like to proudly state that I never peed in the pool!!!! and most swimmers think I’m lying but I just think that’s disgusting! didn’t do it and thought everyone who did was gross! which was literally all of my teammates!!!
guest
@SeeBeeWrite@xanga - but yes that is true! one of my first big time coaches who was an old olympic team coach used to forbid us leaving to pee. we would ask to go to the bathroom and he would say “you’re swimming in one!” ewwwww.
guest
@sleepykao3@xanga - lol you should watch some of his interviews. he is a dummy.
guest
I think being a world-class, Olympic gold medalist gives him a right to pee in the pool if he needs to.
guest
hmm . .very interesting. at least he is honest.. but some things “personal” should be kept to themselves.
&& so what if he is a “man whore” .. his mom must be really trying hard to push that hes a ladies man. or that she wants her son to settle down
guest
i pee in the ocean. but not the pool.
