I religiously watched America’s Next Top Model from Cycle 1 to about Cycle 13. I used to be obsessed – I even got my parents hooked. But now? Not so much. I couldn’t even bring myself to watch the most recent season, which was all-stars (aka people I actually remembered being interested about). Still, it didn’t compel me like the previous cycles had. Now, Tyra Banks herself is admitting she almost left the show.
Tyra claims she was just too stressed out and couldn’t handle the woes of cycle after cycle of her hit show ANTM. Instead of throwing in the towel, Tyra hired coaches to help her better deligate her tasks. She knew she wasn’t ready to leave her baby.
How about the entire show go along with Tyra? With record low ratings over the past few cycles, ANTM just isn’t what it used to be. Tyra is a smart business woman: the show just wouldn’t be the same without her, but that does not necessarily mean there still needs to be a show.
For instance, cycle 19 which premieres this fall is themed ‘College Edition’. Tyra found a group of hopefuls from colleges across the country and plans to see which intellectuals have some modeling talent. Well, if this doesn’t sound like a mess waiting to happen. Over the past few cycles, Tyra has fired most of the original judges and tried theming the show to attract viewers and keep it relevant. Considering I don’t watch any longer, I’m not sure how well it has worked.
Lovelies, do you still watch America’s Next Top Model or do you think its time for the show to end? Will you be tuning in to Cycle 19 in the fall?

I think it used to be awesome. I used to watch it all the time. My Mum still watches it religiously, but I can’t get into the new cycles. It just seems so done before. Everything is the same. ANTM was a super popular thing but eventually every thing needs to come to an end. I would say end it before it hit rock bottom.
Also, a themed one just sounds so dumb, especially since it’s about girls from college.. Why. WHY.

I stopped watching the show a long time ago. The show was so formulaic. The mean girl, the vain girl, the awkward girl, the chubby girl, the girl with some kind of medical condition, the underdog…over and over again.

I’d still watch it if Tyra hadn’t added stupid themes. Last season was actually American vs. British girls and it was completely ridiculous. None of it is high fashion anymore, and they’re even doing music videos. Also, firing the judges is a bad move, everyone loved the original judges.
I think it would be cool if Tyra did a season of male models. I know that male models are a lot less important to the modelling world, but it could be interesting.

@Erika_Steele@xanga - The religious girl, the lesbian, the almost lesbian etc….haha you’re right.

I used to watch ANTM religiously too, when I was in high school, haha. things come & go, that’s life.

It used to be cool. I really liked the first 13 seasons.

I used to love the show and watched season 1-6 but, the same template gets OLD, and NONE of the winners were successes after the show ended
@optimaloctopus@xanga great idea! if there was a male models season, I’d watch it just for the eye candy! even though most of them will probably be gay…

@Erika_Steele@xanga - And don’t forget, in the makeover episode, there will be at least one contestant who has a meltdown over her new look. Which makes me wonder — does ANTM use the makeovers as a way to target contestants for elimination?

The All Stars cycle was the absolute worst! Most of the girls were from past cycles are were well into their 30s and most of them looked so busted, especially that hot mess of a winner they chose, Lisa. She looked like a 40 year old druggie and acted like she was a drunk girl at a party most of the time. http://i.ytimg.com/vi/8bmABKKR-f4/0.jpg <——–If this is your winner, you know something isn’t right!
I wish instead of having all these stupid themes, she just did more short cycles and maybe did a plus size cycle. I think she’s trying too hard and it’s missing the mark of what actually attracts viewers.

@optimaloctopus@xanga - see and that would actually be a worthwhile theme. I don’t see the point of an ANTM college girls season.

I watched it from cycle 3 to cycle 13, and absolutely loved it. Then it started to get boring, repetitive and I think they’re just plain running out of ideas. It was amazing before, don’t get me wrong, but I think they’ve done it to death now, and Tyra should put her time and energy into new projects.

I used to watch ANTM religiously myself, especially when ANTM marathons came on. I prefer the older seasons to the newer seasons. I don’t care for the themes, and I think they should just stick to the basics.
I heard Tyra got rid of Nigel Barker, and both of the Jays. Mainly because she wanted to switch it up, or maybe it’s because of the sinking ratings. ANTM wouldn’t be the same without Nigel, and the Jays since they have been there from the beginning. I doubt I’ll be watching cycle 19 in the fall.

I’ll probably be watching it just because I need something to watch.
