When it comes to face powder, I swear by bareMinerals by Bare Escentuals. I remember receiving my first starter kit for Christmas as a sophomore in high school, and knew that I could never go back to CoverGirl. This product is literally like another layer of skin. The foundation powder blends perfectly with my coloring, and the Mineral Veil makes my skin look absolutely flawless, even when I’m breaking out! Unfortunately, I run out of Mineral Veil all too quickly, and a replacement container costs $20! Fortunately, Lovelies, we can make our own Mineral Veil with the help of one simple ingredient.
Corn starch! That’s right, the two main ingredients in Mineral Veil come from corn starch, a product that can be easily obtained for a low price at your local supermarket. The rest is composed of fillers and color components. Why pay $19.95 for a face powder that you can make yourself for a measly two bucks? To create your own product, simply combine about 1.5 Tablespoons of corn starch with a bit of powder foundation (about 1/8 teaspoon), and stir well. The purpose of the foundation is to add a bit of extra color, otherwise the corn starch will just appear translucent on your skin. As an added bonus, corn starch is great for oily skin.
Have any of you Lovelies used Mineral Veil? Would you try this recipe?

As soon as I read this, I ran to my kitchen and grabbed my little box of corn starch to try it out for myself. Fantastic! Just like the mineral veil!

I would totally try this. I’ve never tried mineral veil, but I would still try this out.

OMG. I bake like three times a year and have cornstarch for baking and stews (that it’s too hot to make 11 months out of the year in Houston). I’ll make this just to justify having cornstarch in the house.

I just made this and it totally works. It’s actually better for me because Bare Minerals makes me want to claw my face off. This feels way lighter. Had to add a little more color to it than 1/8 Tsp and I used bronzer instead!

@hilary_shinn Using bronzer is a great idea! I’ll definitely have to give that a try

Cornstarch makes me break out and Bare Minerals doesn’t. It’s good on my sensitive skin, and i much rather pay $20 for a brand name that’s good for me.

Since I religiously use Bare Mineral foundation, I really don’t mind saving a few bucks on the veil! Thanks!

I am SO trying this! I run out of my veil first and I haven’t had a chance to refill it.
