In Elementary school, there was nothing more exciting than watching the teacher roll in the television set during science class, because that could mean only one thing — a Bill Nye video. Now, years after the end of those most glorious “movie” days in class, a new video arises from the depths of YouTube in which Bill Nye the Science Guy teaches us yet again. This time: how to tie a bow-tie.

Though it doesn’t seem like the most useful thing to learn, it is true that bow-ties have made a comeback, and who better to teach this generation the tips and tricks of bow-tie tying than the man who granted the look a special place in our prepubescent hearts?

Nye agreed to the video after appearing on a Nerdist podcast, where he talked about a range of delightfully scientific things, all more advanced than the basics that he taught us in our youth. The podcast is interesting and fun, and the video is just fabulous— his new name should be Bill Nye the Bow-Tie Guy.

There is something magical about learning from Bill Nye, even as a college student. Though he’s quite visibly aged since my childhood, he’s still got all the spunk and charm that he did all those years ago. All I can say is: Bill, please get your own YouTube channel. Please.
