Remember when you were a kid and you would watch a movie so scary that you had to keep the lights on at night? Ok, maybe I was too much of a fearful kid, but these horror movies used to give me terrible nightmares so much that I would never want to go to sleep!
Today, however, the same movies that would keep me up at night as a child, just don’t seem to be scary anymore – instead I find them completely cheesy!
So, here are a few of my favorite scary movies as a kid — that make me laugh today.
Nightmare on Elm StreetI could remember having so many nightmares after watching this movie! Most people have that one movie that was their childhood horror movie — this was mine.
Stephen King’s It
If you were scared of clowns as a kid, then this probably freaked you out. Personally, I think the book was scarier, but it was a great horror movie to watch when you’re young!
Little Shop of Horrors
When I was a kid, the idea of a talking plant eating people was pretty terrifying. Thinking about it now – not so much.
The Shining
Ok, so this is still a great movie, but honestly – it doesn’t seem that scary anymore!
The Exorcist
This is still a great horror movie and is still one of my favorites to this day!
Chucky
What were your favorite scary movies as a kid? Have you watched them recently?

Thats weird because i was watching IT the other night and i was horrified of that movie when i was little but now its really not scary at all hahaha or maybe its because scary movies dont really “scare” me

You’re crazy! Some of these still scare the crap out of me… Okay, we’ll more like the concept of the villains. I still think Freddy Kruger is one of the scariest out there since he comes into your dreams and manipulates you! And Chucky will be forever scary to me cuz it’s a former satanic worshipping convict runaway trapped in a kids’ doll! I’m just saying lol.

anything that relied too much on special effects. they look dated now. and the Exorcist never scared me, because it always looked fake.

I never had a passion for scary movies when I was little. I’ve only really been watching then for the last 5 yrs. I absolutely love Little Shop of Horrors makes me smile every time. The Shining is a little warped I’ll admit but not scary. And the first time I saw the Exorcist I was with my fiance’s mother and we thought it was just the funniest thing EVER. I mean we couldn’t stop laughing at it. The rest to me are just boring.

I don’t know, The Exorcist is still up there on my list.
But I remember watching The Grudge when I was about eleven, and now it doesn’t scare me in the slightest. I find that scary movies creep me out more than anything.

Ok, so I have to confess that after writing this post and looking at all the pictures, I could barely sleep that night! That pictures of Freddy Krueger freaks me out still lol!

Ugh, I don’t know why anyone would let a child watch any of these movies (unless you meant teenager more then actual young child). I’m not sure if it was that my mom didn’t let me watch them or I didn’t want to watch them (because I didn’t) but I am pretty grateful I didn’t see any of them until I was older. I was good with goosebumps and are you afraid of the dark, thanks. I don’t think my parents even liked me watching Tales from the Crypt.

I saw all of these as a young kid, I don’t remember being scared of any of them. I always thought they were amusing to be honest. The were so predictable, my brother and I use to guess who was going to die first. However, there were a few video games involving monsters/zombies that scared the crap out of me because I knew they would jump out at me, lol.

IT was a scary ass book. But all these movies now are just comical.Especially the Exorcist. I crack up every time she comes crawling down the stairs and pees on the rug. Kills me.

I saw IT when I was older so I wasn’t scared of clowns growing up. I think if I saw the movie when I was younger I’d have nightmares and all.
The Shinning was creepy not scary for me…even though I saw it when I was a teenager.
EVERYONE loves Chucky & a complete classic. The remakes obviously do not compare to the first movie.
Definitely all these movies are still classics to watch.

I wouldn’t say these movies aren’t scary anymore. I would say I’m able to watch them without covering my eyes and having nightmares! Lol. These movies are still very creepy…a killer clown, a killer doll, a severely burned man who can kill you in your dreams, a guy gone completely mad…..that’s all scary as hell.

I didn’t watch many scary movies as a young kid, but aliens scared me more than anything. I wasn’t ever really scared of Freddy/Chucky.
The Fourth Kind probably scares me more than any movie I’ve seen. Classic horror has kind of a nostalgic/autumnal/artistic feel to me
