London 2012 is now officially under way. Did you happen to watch the super expensive Olympics Opening Ceremony last night? At one point were you alienated from the promising onset of athletic prowess and realize the English were being a tad bit over the top? In an attempt to eclipse Beijing’s ceremony that practically utilized China’s entire population for hours, London provided us with awe-inspiring visuals with occasional splices of absurdity. Let’s examine those, shall we? Brilliant!

The Mary Poppins Gang was definitely a highlight, but what other orchestrated numbers made the cut? The Queen’s utter titillation sets the tone perfectly.

In a ceremony that filled the world in on London’s history, starting with Kenneth Branagh’s Abraham Lincoln get-up (?) and sealing the deal with David Bechham handing to the torch to legendary Olympian Steve Redgrave, the lengthy performance had some choice moments just begging to be gif’ed. Also, Danny Boyle, the director of everyone’s favorite feel-good rom-com, Trainspotting, directed the entire event! All jokes aside, the ceremony had stunning moments. The crowd sang along to “Hey Jude” performed by Paul McCartney and the Queen’s Corgis tickled every viewers’ fancy!

What were your favorite moments? Did the ceremony pump you up for the 30th Olympiad?
