For many of us, a new semester of school is just around the corner. That means time to start shopping for new supplies — including a whole new batch of notebooks. In a desperate attempt to make my notebooks less boring, I always end up doodling on them, which always leads to the other items in my backpack getting stained from not-quite-dry pen and Sharpie ink. So I found these three tutorials to make my notebooks cute — without endangering my textbooks.
1. Fabric
These covers are just so cute, and pretty durable as well. I know I’m not the only one whose books and folders get pretty beaten up over the course of the semester. Depending on how much fabric you have, you can cover any type of book this way, and it’s super easy to do!
2. Lace
So I might have a slight obsession with anything/everything that has to do with lace. I can’t help it — it’s just such a pretty design! This cover is also very easy, but only works on notebooks that have blank, absorbent covers (like cardboard or paper). The end result is so pretty, though, that it’s worth the extra time spent searching for the perfect canvas.
3. Woven
Though this would work with any kind of paper (or fabric), I think the map is just the coolest thing. The weaving itself is a little tricky, but, as a whole, this cover isn’t too hard to make. This is the kind of book you see in boutiques going for 40 dollars; now you can make it yourself for just a few bucks!

I’ve done lace before!
It looks like sharpies were used in that process and that looks ridiculous. What I do is take a piece, lay it over the notebook, lay down my tarp, grab some spray paint, and sweep over the lace. Dry and remove! Simple! I bet it works great with doilies too.
