Yay! I love the summer Olympics so much! Especially the women’s gymnastics. I’ve been prepping myself for the excitement by watching the trials and I am stoked. I think I have mentioned this before, but the one thing that weirds me out about the Olympics are the leotards (that’s a whole lot of jumping around with very little fabric down there). Even though it is obviously the best garment for what they do.
One thing is for sure, the leotard designs have changed significantly over the years; Becoming more functional and well… sparkly. See the evolution of the Olympic leotard below.

Looking at these pictures, I remember that I used to wonder how they managed to avoid wedgies and cameltoes. Does anyone know the answer? Any gymnasts here?

@SweetNGuilty@xanga - They spray their butts with hairspray. Keeps the fabric from riding up.
And women’s gymnastics is actually my favorite event! I’m extra excited.

@Camouflaged_by_night@xanga - @SweetNGuilty@xanga - Hairspray on their butts? Makes sense. I think they also use tape to keep stuff in place. It seems like if you were to sweat everything would come unstuck.

does anyone else think the collar on the leotard is completely hysterical?

they can’t use tape because if it actually shows anywhere it’s a really big deductions

@SweetNGuilty@xanga - My daughter does competitive roller skating and wears a leotard piece with a skirt attached. It is all in the cut of the leotard. Never heard of using hair spray on the butt. It doesn’t sound like it would work with any sweat, but I’m not about to spray her butt to see if it works when her leotards just don’t ride up. lol

@SweetNGuilty@xanga - properly fitting leos and spray sticky stuff on our butts to hold it in place. but you can commonly find us picking at them anyway.

@undeclared1@xanga - yeah I could see nothing stopping the occasional wedgie.
It happens.

i have a serious question that i’ve always wondered about. what if a gymnast gets her period? i assume they used tampons, or is there a way that they stop their period from coming before/during an event?

i like the chinese team’s outfits from the beijing games. they are the coolest

@KatieK - @TiredSoVeryTired@xanga - @undeclared1@xanga - Thanks everyone for your answers! I saw butt spraying in Miss Congeniality, but I didn’t think it’d also work for people who do splits and everything. ^^

@pretty_inx_plaid@xanga - most gymnasts, if not close to all, don’t have nearly enough body fat to get their period.

@Baseballchik138@xanga - good point. they’re kind of lucky in a way… lol
