We all feel a little silly sometimes for watching “those movies.” But this chart might just make you swear off romantic comedy movies altogether.
This infographic from Cracked definitely opened my eyes to how repetitive (and potentially harmful) romantic comedies can be. Because let’s face it: Romantic comedies usually end the exact same way, with love conquering all and everything being perfect. Which isn’t like real life most of the time, Lovelies. These movies set us up to make us think that we’re just like Jennifer Aniston or Renee Zellweger, and that our boyfriend (notice how it’s hardly ever “our girlfriend”?) has to be absolutely charming and perfect at all times. No sick days allowed!
If you don’t believe me, look at this chart. Tell me this doesn’t sound like every romantic comedy you’ve ever seen in your life:
Do you think this chart is right? Can you think of any rom-coms that are the exception to this format?

It plays off of people’s biological needs. Those needs are fairly predictable. If you can make money off of what is predictable, you’re probably going to be filthy rich.

Cannot think of one movie.. Haha.

Lol yea, this describes them all. I’m still going to watch them with a big tub of ice cream though — just watched “The Vow” the other night, romcoms are my guilty pleasure!

The chart does describe them, but I still love romantic comedies. I don’t feel I have any delusional thoughts about whether or not it resembles real life because I know that is not how things work in real life. I love the movies for short escapes from the madness, so they’re my guilty pleasure.

Realistic or not I’m a sucker for rom-coms!! I’ll still watch them no matter what.

The chart is right but I’ve known that all along. Doesn’t sway my love for a good ol’ romcom
Exception: 500 Days of Summer

Most rom coms blow….high fidelity is an exception.

The Break-up doesn’t really fit this mold, though it is categorized as “comedy-drama romance.” Knocked Up is a little different too. Angus, Thongs, and Perfect Snogging doesn’t fit the bill either (in case anyone hasn’t seen/heard of it, the movie’s based off a series of YA comedy/romance/slice of life books). But I must say this graphic is pretty hilarious and mostly on point.

just saw celeste and jesse forever, and that doesn’t fit this mold. (500) days of summer. my best friend’s wedding. and others i can’t think of currently haha.
