I’ve been an avid Lovelyish fan since the blog started, mainly because I’ve had a Xanga site since I was a middle schooler. Long before the days of Facebook or Myspace (yes, Myspace) Xanga was the social media site to have.
Not only did all my friends have one, it was a one stop shop to find all the ridiculously sappy love quotes that used to take up our AOL Instant Messenger profiles. Don’t pretend like you didn’t have one, complete with faded color schemes and special symbols. Ah, to be young again.
As years passed, Xanga somewhat died out with my friend group. I still avidly visited the site, finding quotes (ones I hoped were much more mature than the junk I used to think was inspiring) and reading blogs. There are infinite amounts of Xanga’s solely dedicated to quotes, and I was one of those people who would spend hours reading through them. I have a growing list of my favorite quotes, and its still a hobby I have to this day.
Unfortunately, most of the Xanga’s I subscribed to died out. There just isn’t a market as much, and I’m sure those people, like me, have aged since they first created their site. Responsibilities kinda suck, but they happen as you age. I hardly any see updates, and that’s from almost forty different subscriptions.
Pinterest has become my trusty replacement. Granted, these quotes are found in GIF version, but I am able to find all my favorites in one handy place, rather than on a saved word document. Well, I suppose it is the same thing, but having a board named ‘The cold hard truth’ sounds so much deeper than having a private word document with the same name.
Lovelies, where do you find your favorite quotes? How do you save them?

“Like one, that on a lonesome road
Doth walk in fear and dread,
And having once turned round walks on,
And turns no more his head;
Because he knows, a frightful fiend
Doth close behind him tread.” Samuel Coleridge
That has been my favorite quote since the 8th grade. I especially liked it combined with the question, “How fast does one run when the devil is behind him?” as I first read it in Tanith Lee’s The Book of the Damned….I think I read them together in that book or maybe my brain just combined them.

Great quotes! And I’m glad to see another Lovely that goes waaaayyyy back with Xanga.
One of my favorite quotes is, “When you put on this jersey, the name on the front is a hell of a lot more important than the name on the back,” said by Herb Brooks, the hockey coach of the 1980 gold medal men’s hockey team. It’s from the movie Miracle so who knows if it’s legit, but it’s very appropriate now that it’s Olympic season!
