Some people are daring with fashion, experimenting with colors, cuts, and accessories that most of us wouldn’t dream of wearing. While I’m fairly tame when it comes to fashion, I love to experiment with makeup. It’s so easy, and so much fun, to play with different makeup looks, which can so easily be washed off if something goes wrong. But which are the most daring trends to try? Let’s take a look!
Since my job pretty much guarantees that my face will be immersed in water at some point during the workday, I rarely wear makeup during the week. When I do, it’s a very natural look, so I don’t really have a chance to get creative with makeup during daylight hours. The only times that I break out my bold makeup are when I’m trying new looks I found in a magazine or online (out of sheer boredom), or when I’m going out for the night with my friends. Below I’ve listed what I believe to be some of the boldest makeup trends. Some are just a little crazy, and others are a bit extreme for my taste.
Do you Lovelies love or hate these bold looks? Which, if any, would you try?
Flipped Kohl Eyeliner: This upside-down smokey eye was seen on the Matthew Williamson spring runway. Apply kohl underneath the eyes only, as shown in the above photo. Keep the rest of the makeup neutral and avoid using shimmer. Try a coral blush and nude lip color to balance out the extreme look of this eye makeup.
Bright Lips: Normally I’m not a lipstick girl, but this color is so much fun! This is a great look, but you must prepare correctly before applying lip color. Exfoliate lips before applying. Line and fill the lips with liner and apply the color straight from the tube. Be sure to carry the lipstick with you for the rest of the day so you can re-apply.
Double Lined Eyes: This look premiered at the Altuzarra Fall 2012 show, and has been seen on the Georgio Armani runway. To create this look, first apply liquid liner along the top lash line to the outer corner of the eyebrow. Draw a parallel line above this, starting in the corner of the eye then going up and drawing the line straight across the crease.
Bold Eyebrows: These are definitely daring, but can be a face’s defining feature. As a very natural look, it is a favorite of designers and beauty editors everywhere. If you have naturally thick eyebrows, use a brow brush to set them in the desired position. To ensure they stay in place, use a brow gel (clear lip gloss works too!). If you have thin brows or want to go bolder, use an eyebrow pencil to fill them in.
Two-tone Lips: Given the nature of this trend, you don’t have to use extremely bright, crazy colors in order to make a statement. Instead, you can use one rich shade to offset a more neutral color. Choose two shades, and apply the brighter color to the top lip. As with every unique lipstick style, keep the rest of your makeup neutral; stay away from heavy blush or eyeshadow!
Colored Eyeliner: I am obsessed with this trend. It’s not the boldest of looks, but adds just enough color to make a statement. Be sure to choose a color that suits you, and keep the rest of your makeup neutral so that your eyes remain the focal point of the look. Sephora has some great bright eyeliners!
Black Cherry Lipstick: This lip color is very dramatic, and consequently a bit hard to get used to. If you typically wear lipstick, you may feel more comfortable embracing this trend. Apply lip liner or primer before applying. As with dark lipstick in general, use a lip brush for extra precision during application.
Metallic Eyeshadow: The Spring 2012 catwalks welcomed a wealth of shimmery eye makeup. Gucci and Emilio Pucci are two famous designers that embraced the shimmery trend. Using bronze, silver, or gold eyeshadow, you can rock a metallic eye throughout this summer into the upcoming fall. Regardless of which shade you use, get extra definition with dark eyeliner and mascara.

Coloured eyeliner and the metallic eyeshadow I’m willing to try, but I’m not a big fan of the others.

I have done colored eyeliner, and I would do the black cherry lips.
BTW, I appreciate the scrolly nature of this post vs. the gallery. Thank you!

I’ve done bright lipstick (same color as photo, acutally!), double lined eyes (in a different way. I copped it from a Beyonce music video), and colored eyeliner. The rest is meh. I think the black cherry could work with my skin tone.
