I used to only drink iced coffee with added flavorings and lots of whipped cream, but now I’ll drink it just about any way but black. When making my morning cup or grabbing one on the run at Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks, I’m usually half asleep and not conscious enough to really think about what exactly I’m consuming. I’m too focused on getting my caffeine fix to be concerned with the calories, sugars and grams of fat that are making their way into my system gulp by gulp, but after reading about how unhealthy some coffee chain drinks are for us, it’s time to reevaluate my morning intake.
Trying to balance a bikini worthy body with the lure of sweet iced coffees in the summer is difficult for me, and iced coffees served everywhere look so appealing when I’m overheated and thirsty. Take a look at this summer’s worst summer coffee chain drinks, and you might be less inclined to fall for their seductive advertising.
McDonald’s Chocolate Chip Mocha Frappe: 530 calories, 24 grams of fat.
Dunkin Donuts’ Iced Caramel Mocha Latte: 220 calories, 3 grams of fat.
Starbucks’ Tazo Chai Frappuccino Blended Creme: 360 calories, 15 grams of fat.
Starbucks’ Strawberries and Creme Frappuccino Blended Creme: 470 calories, 17 grams of fat.
Starbucks’ Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino Blended Beverage: 480 calories, 19 grams of fat.
Yikes! That sounds like a lot of work at the gym to make any of these frozen beverages even remotely worth it. For less work, I can hydrate with homemade fruit smoothies or just a bottle of water for a fraction of the calories, fat and money! Sounds good to me.
Does this make you rethink your summer beverage choices? What do you love to drink in the summer?
