Before joining the fabulously Lovelyish team, I worked for a wedding blog. At age nineteen, that’s a pretty bizarre job to have. I spent hours everyday hunting through wedding blogs, enough that you would think I was planning my own wedding.

What I found (aside from a lot of things I WOULDN’T want for my own wedding) was some of the most quirky and interesting little twists brides and grooms add to their big day to make it stand out from the rest. One of my favorite places this was done was through the wedding cake topper.

Most weddings use the traditional bride and groom figurines, but lately there have been numerous funky variations. I’m sure many of you have seen this popular humorous adaptation of the bride dragging the groom:

Toppers have gotten even more creative than that, from using animals, to popular movie characters, to even legos!

Personally, I love the toppers that are unique to the couple, whether they be realistic characters or just a shared hobby. Adding personal touches such as these let a couple’s unique love shine through, in an atypical wedding reception that I have found can often be bogged down by social norms and expectations.

Because who doesn’t want The Nightmare Before Christmas sitting atop their wedding cake?

Check out the gallery below for some of the craziest wedding cake toppers I’ve found.

Lovelies, would you consider using a ‘nontraditional’ cake topper? What do you think of these options?
