As anyone who watches the Olympics knows, the opening and closing ceremonies are a big deal. And while most of the weight of those events is shouldered by the hosting country, every competing team feels some pressure to properly represent their nation. After looking at the newly released uniforms, though, I don’t think America has to worry.
These swanky outfits seem reminiscent of our country’s Navy uniforms, but a touch of class that only Ralph Lauren could bring. I especially love the white slacks and skirts — though they may be wearing blazers and scarves, the liberal use of white reminds us that these are the summer Olympics.
I also love that, for once, the red, white and blue combo doesn’t look tacky or cheesy — just classy. Talk about an impressive presentation for the opening and closing ceremonies.
Ralph Lauren is also designing a whole line of Olympic clothing for the athletes to wear during training and leisure, which is also available for the public to purchase online. Now, I don’t know how comfortable I would be wearing a $200 Team U.S.A. Polo dress, but I’m definitely digging the snazzy berets. (And if you want to really look like an Olympian, the ceremonial blazers are also on sale — for $600.)
What do you think of this year’s uniforms, Lovelies?

I don’t like how it fits but I’m not really a Ralph Lauren fan.

I think the uniforms are awful. I hate the berets and the skirt is so awkward looking. They look like they should be on a yacht, not representing America in the olympics.

To me, they look 20-30 years out of date.

I heard on the Today show that Ralph Lauren looked at the trends the last time London held the Games and inspired the outfits from there. I love these looks. They’re classy, modern and perfect, I think.

… yeah, I said it on Twitter and I’ll say it again, they look like something French flight attendants would wear. The only thing that says “America” to me is the giant logo and the fact that they were made in China.

the guys look ok, but the ladies’ uniform is awful. that’s a horrible skirt fit/shape. the skirt + high socks combo make her legs look super short and the blazer just throws her body proportions off even more. BLEHHH.

Sorry, but these some of the ugliest uniforms I’ve ever seen.

Don’t like it. There was a huge deal over the berets. If they weren’t so french-looking, I’d like them. But this is America.

Nothing more American than the “made in China” tag.
Actually, that’s true…

the guys should wear a short sleeve fitted polo shirt to show off their bulging biceps and form fitting pants to show the silhouette of their toned butt
some eyecandy for us to look at for a change. the male volleyball players should also be shirtless. they often put the sex appeal in female uniforms but not really in male uniforms, not that sex appeal should matter, but less clothes on males and maybe a little more clothes on females. the females can wear long pants and the blazer with collared polo shirt buttoned up all the way so they are covered up like the males for once
I don’t really watch the opening ceremony anyway, way too long and boring.

Oh god, I hope the uniforms are not made in China. The USA should take more pride in the athletes appearance and support its own manufacturing business, especially with Olympic uniforms. Did the USA purchase made in USSR uniforms in the 60′s, hell no. So why the fuck are they purchasing made in China uniforms now.

I don’t like the Ralph Lauren logo in the upper left. How does it represent America? It represents Ralph Lauren.

They look Chinese.

I’m actually loving the white pants.

I’m not digging the skirt.

@fadeing_hallucinations@xanga - Unfortunately the uniforms have been made in China.
We still can’t believe that the AMERICAN uniforms have been made in a foreign country when this is supposed to celebrate our country. Utterly despicable.

I think it is absolutely amazing! Ralph Lauren is a fabulous designer, and these are SO classy in my opinion. I love how they’re vintage inspired and honestly I don’t think those berets look like the classic French berets.
