Lifetime never fails me. Hands down, Lifetime is my favorite channel mainly for the ridiculously dramatic yet oh-so-wonderful movies that seem to premiere every weekend. Over the past few years, Lifetime has been moving to create more original programming, both reality and scripted, and soon there will be a new guilty pleasure to add to that list: Prom Queens.
I want you all to use your imaginations and think of what the premise of this show is. Whatever you thought? It’s right. The name of this show pretty much explains it all. The reality experiment will follow high school seniors around as they vie for the coveted title of prom queen at their high school. Expect drama, cat fights, and lots and lots of sequins.
Is it just me, or does this show sound like the greatest guilty pleasure to come out this year? I personally would have loved this in my high school — then again, I would have been the girl planning the coup to make sure the girl featured didn’t win… I can only hope there are people in the world as cruel as me so we can all tune into some great television!
The series will premiere on August 14th at 9/8 central, using Dance Moms as a lead-in.
Lovelies, will you be tuning into Lifetime’s ‘Prom Queens’?

I like Lifetime movies, but I don’t think I have any interest in watching Prom Queens, or any of the other pageantry related shows.

You are assuming I am remotely interested in the social lives of people in high school that I wasn’t interested in when I was in high school…not even enough to plot against, sabotage, or anything else. They were just so not on my radar.

No. I don’t watch crap. With the exception of documentaries on actual crap, like the one about how the Secret Service collects the president’s crap and analyzes it to make sure he’s healthy, and to prevent foreign agents from doing the same.

I remember when I was prom queen… you’re just a regular person in the end

I don’t understand how there are people on this planet with an IQ low enough to be entertained by this crap.

I feel like this show was made just for me. I’m so excited to watch the inevitable train wreck!

Homecoming and prom titles, as far as I know, weren’t a big deal at my high school. I never felt it was. Especially homecoming, since the court consisted of a representative from each school club. I was in the homecoming court both my junior and senior year because no one else wanted to do it. I suppose it was a bigger deal in some of the larger clubs. I think prom nominations were by homeroom. And the people who won were “popular” but in the “everyone liked them because they were nice people” popular, not “Mean Girls” popular.
My point is, I don’t even get WHY this should be entertaining because I don’t understand WHY girls would get so wrapped up in something like Prom Queen.

Even in high school nobody cared about who was prom queen. Shit, I was nominated and I still didn’t care. I don’t think even the girl who won cared. Are people really going to watch this?
