I’m sure everyone in the world has a list of must-have beauty products, but today I was reading a post on Total Sorority Move and I was inspired to write my own. I was surprised to find how similar my own list was to the one I found on the website. It’s pretty impressive to know my favorites are more universal than I thought.
Of course there is some deviation in every list, but here are the few products (and my favorite brands) I simply cannot live without:
1. A coverup that matches your skin tone
I spent at least five years finding a coverup that would work for me. I am extremely fair-skinned, but also have olive undertones, so I found it difficult to find something that wouldn’t wash me out or look cake-y. Covergirl’s Clean Sensitive Skin makeup blends well on me and lasts the whole day. Just be sure to use moisturizer so your skin doesn’t makw awkward coverup flakes.
2. An eyeshadow palette that is extremely versatile
I personally don’t enjoy buying multiple little eyeshadow pots that only seem to take up room and get lost. Instead, I would love to have everything in a compact palette that I can use daily. Urban Decay’s Naked Eye Palette just does that. Being a redhead with brown eyes, this palette has colors that highlight my eyes and don’t look too dark on my light skin. It’s incredibly versatile and I have had no issues using it for both night and day use.
3. A great summer nail polish
You could be the palest person in the world, but bright nail polish looks good on anyone’s toes in the summer. Find a color you love and stick with it. Above is my personal favorite, Essie’s Cute As A Button. Since I only wear this shade in the summer, I never get sick of it!
4. A signature scent
Naturally I would say that all girls need two scents: a spring/summer and a fall/winter appropriate scent, but in general one is acceptable. Although it is more of a winter scent, Dior Addict 2 is my go to perfume. It is the scent my friends can smell and immediately think of me. I wear it nearly daily and I would probably walk to Dior headquarters myself if by some horrible accident it were ever discontinued.
5. A lip balm that doesn’t dry out your lips (preferably with SPF)
Even in the hottest of months I occasionally see my lips getting a bit chapped. Finding a lip balm that can work in versatile weather is important. My personal favorite is EOS in Lemon Drop. It’s compact, has an SPF of 15, and tastes fabulous.
6. Blotting papers
These are my wonder sheets. I have combination skin and I tend to get very oily throughout the day. Blotting papers help eliminate that without ruining my makeup. Plus, they are relatively cheap and very easy to stash in a compartment of my bag. Find these at Sephora or virtually any beauty supply store.
7. Makeup Remover
The age-old rule is true: never go to bed in your makeup! It’s important to have a remover that gets everything off, in addition to washing your face. MAC’s works great for me, and isn’t at all oily, which is an issue I have found with most.
8. Dry Shampoo
I pretty much swear by dry shampoo. Straightening my hair can be a hassle and I like it to last as long as possible without looking dirty or greasy. A good dry shampoo will absorb the grease and usually give your hair at least another day of use. Pssst (pictured on top of post) is my personal favorite. Not only is it cheap and smells awesome, it is available in pharmacies and beauty stores everywhere.
Lovelies, do you agree with my choices? What are some of your must have products & the brands you use?

Number 5 is all a girl really needs actually. Everything else is just extra.

I agree with your list of types of products (maybe not the particular brands/colors that are your favorites). I like the concept of the dry shampoo, but I have never tried it. The only things I would consider adding would be a good nourishing night cream and sunscreen. If you take care of your skin, it will reflect in your appearance (in addition to good habits as eating well, exercising, hydrating, etc). I prefer eye shadow palettes over individual pots as well. I think I suck at coordinating colors, so palettes are perfect for me because they are pre-approved color combinations–my palettes are Too Faced (Natural and Natural at Night). Currently my go-to bright nail polish is China Glaze 108 Degrees.

The best beauty product ever is broad spectrum sunscreen.

Odd, I’ve found all Covergirl foundations to be WTF? pink on my skin. I’m very fair with gold/olive (red headed too!). I do like blotting sheets because I’m combo skinned, which makes over powdering the kiss of death on my dry patches. I like to use plain cocoa butter for lips and olive oil as a makeup remover. I wear citrusy stuff in the summer and floral with musks in them for winter. I can’t get into painting my nails. I handle way too many solvents for that to ever be a good use of my time. My hair also takes forever to get dirty so by the time it does I may as well just wash it.

The only thing on here that I use is lip balm. Everything else is useless to me, because I refuse to wear makeup. I usually only wear eyeliner occassionally, or when I’m going out.
If I’m going to some kind of event… that’s when I put makeup on. But I use the cheapest stuff… it’s not even a name brand. And I use baby oil as my makeup remover, just before showering. I also wash my face with Noxema in the shower and then afterward, use an alcohol pad. And I RARELY have acne. So it obviously works. Lol.
I also don’t paint my nails often, because it’s just a pain in the ass. Especially removing it. @.@ I also have like… a million different body sprays/perfumes. Mostly because that’s what I get for Christmas/my birthday from people. If I had to pick something, it would be Japanese Cherry Blossom by BBW. <33 Shit never gets old, man. Dancing Waters (also BBW) is a VERY close second.
And my hair gets washed every day. Otherwise I would feel absolutely nasty. Then again, I don’t really do anything with my hair. It’s never been straightened, blow-dried, crimped, dyed, etc. It’s always been natural. And I’m SO glad for that. I have lovely hair because I’ve treated it well. <3

Sunscreen, lip balm with spf, and water.
Hell, even the lip balm isn’t a necessity.

anyone else find that all lipbalms with SPFs in them have a bitter taste?

I don’t really need most of this stuff. Number 5, maybe, but I sometimes just wear caramex. Number 4 is a definitely absolute no because I’m allergic to most “scents”.

Sunscreen, Blistex and a powder foundation.

Shallow, much? I don’t typically wear any make-up or nail polish, and I’m perfectly happy using water when I wash my hair. I’m pretty sure my needs are food, water, shelter.

I’ve found that lip balms dry out my lips even more. When I used to use them regularly, I constantly had to re-apply them or my lips get sore, but when I get over the “sore” phase, I never need to use them unless it’s really dry or cold out.

The advertising corporations have indoctrinated you well. Sunscreen and a kiss from my man and I’m good for the day.

All I “NEED” is liquid eyeliner, eye makeup remover, and lip balm. Anything else is just extra. I’ve given away most of my eye shadows because I never use them.
