Most kids spend at least some time in the pool imagining themselves as mermaids. In fact, that was the only thing I pretended when swimming as a child. (Sometimes I still do!) And now there’s a new water accessory for fans of The Little Mermaid: fully-functioning tails you can wear underwater. Check out more photos and a video of them here!
Monika Naumann started making these tails for her daughters, and then began selling other custom-made pieces for $250 each. They come in five colors and can be bought over on Naumann’s website.
Yeah…I kind of really love these. But I would be way too embarrassed to ever wear one in public, since I usually do a pretty good job of hiding my huge inner geek. But if I ever have a private swimming pool, you can bet I’ll be buying them in several colors. [via io9]
What do you think of these? Would you wear one?

Silly and dangerous.

Whoever uses these is definitely getting a great ab workout if they are swimming laps!

uhm….yes!

Omg i want one, and would so wear one if i had my own pool

I’d have to become a stronger swimmer before I could use these. I remember putting on a pair of flippers and holding my legs together to get the “mermaid” effect when I was younger and it was tough. I remember having a slight panic attack when I had trouble resurfacing because of less range of motion you have with your legs and feet.

I LOVE this. I was obsessed with the Little Mermaid when I was a kid. Too bad I’m not 10 anymore.

I would drown

For a photoshoot, sure… otherwise no, probably not.
I agree with other posters that these could be dangerous.

Only in a private pool and only for working out.

Pretty cool! I would only wear one around people I knew, and not for that price.

I feel like these are really dangerous. I used to pretend I was a mermaid with my friends when I was younger by tying our feet together with headbands, and I only remember sometimes when I felt as though I’d never resurface from the water.

I think I’d freak out a little because of how binding they’d be. . . But I wouldn’t mind trying it X-D

Um…
no
.

i will judge the shit out of anyone who wears this.

You’d need great upper arm strength to wear those safely. They look fun, but you need your legs to kick up from the bottom of the pool.

Hahah, as cute as they are, they look so funny wearing them because no ones used to swimming that way! My sister and I used to put flippers on and tie pool wraps around our ankles in the pool in our back yard. Hardest way to swim ever hahaha, so embarrassing to admit that.

They look cute, but seems like they’d be awkward to swim in. Plus how will I get piggy backs from my husband if I can’t wrap my legs around?

Only if I had a private pool for my daughters…well, if I had daughters at that. I do think it’s quite endearing, since many girls like to imagine themselves like this, as I understand it. I don’t mind entertaining such imaginations.
I second the concern for caution that others are mentioning, which is why I’d only support it in a private venue – easier to come to the rescue if something goes a bit awry.
That said, I think this is a very cute novelty for girls of ANY age.

The comments on this post make me think I’m just meant to be a fish! Lol! For some reason I’ve always swam with my legs together. Much faster & easier because you just use your abs & legs & glide through the water. So I would definitely buy one.. & use it to pull some awesome pranks at the beach!! ;]

MY DREAM HAS BECOME A REALITY *_*
Although, I think that it would be dangerous if these are used in a beach.

maybe if i were really bored at HOME and had just watched the Little Mermaid which i’m not obsessed with so probably not. plus that would be tiring lol.

I would only wear one to reenact Zoolander’s Merman commercial, and then drown myself.
