Though it is not unusual for space programs to release time-lapsed footage of celestial bodies; And though, in this day and age, it isn’t uncommon to have seen countless images of the Earth from space, there is something incredibly amazing about the way Tomislav Safundžić put this video together. Take a look.
This is Our Planet from Tomislav Safundžić on Vimeo.
According to his Vimeo page, Safundžić compiled all of the footage from the Image Science and Analysis Laboratory at NASA. The end product was a beautiful compilation of images of the Earth, the aurorae, the moon, and the International Space Station that orbits it all and recorded the footage used.
What gets me is how fake it all looks. Like, out of a sci-fi movie or something. But maybe it’s just because I can’t really comprehend that all of the footage is real and we really are spinning around space on this blue little orb. I’ve watched this video at least three times, and it blows my mind every time.
What do you think, Lovelies? Is this the coolest video you’ve seen all day or what?

Many moons ago I would use software to compose movie flyovers of whatever area of Mars caught my fancy. The computer used Mars surface data taken from probes like Viking. And then I would present them to students and staff.
But now there are so many actual satellite photos that it’s possible to compose an actual movie. How times have changed!

Cool. It doesn’t look fake to me. The lighting and the shadows are too good for it to be fake.
