Junk food is just kind of awesome. But after a while, buying a bag of Cheetos becomes a bore. So why not put a little work into satisfying your cravings, and try one of these DIY junk food recipes?

1. Fruit Roll-Ups

When we were kids, I think my friends and I spent more time pretending our Fruit Roll-Ups were lizard tongues than actually eating them. But when we did actually eat them, they were the most delicious things ever. What I love about this recipe is that it really lives up to its name — the only ingredient used is fruit! Plus, you can make whatever flavor you want, instead of buying the packaged “berry” flavor.

2. Twinkies

Though I never really developed a taste for them, there’s something oddly patriotic about Twinkies that makes them (sort of) appealing. Plus, this recipe actually sounds delicious, especially straight out of the oven. (Though I doubt the homemade ones have a shelf-life of 30 years.)

3. Cool Ranch Doritos

This recipe also sounds a whole lot more appealing than the original. Mostly because it calls for frying up your own tortilla chips, and you can add/subtract as much seasoning as you want. (Of course, you might not get the same seasoning-covered fingertips like with the packaged chips, but it’s probably an fair trade-out.)

4. Oreos

Reportedly, these cookies taste exactly like Oreos, but with a fresh-baked crunch that you can’t get from the store. Plus, now you can get whatever seasonal coloring you love, without having to wait! (Halloween Oreos in July? Yes, please.)

5. Nutella

Yes, this is a recipe for Nutella. No, it does not require a sprinkling of pixie dust, or whatever magical element that we all assume makes Nutella so delicious. No, it really isn’t healthier, even if it is homemade. And no, it doesn’t really matter, because it is homemade Nutella.
