You know when you have that great gal-pal who starts dating that less than savory dude who takes up all her time and energy, and all you and your friends can do is hope and pray that someday she’ll come to her senses? And when she finally does, you’re so happy to welcome her back into the fold? That’s how Katie Holmes‘ fans seem to be receiving the news of her divorce and the events that have followed. Katie seems to have a whole arsenal of aspirations she’s been unable to pursue, and now that she’s free, it looks like nothing can stop her. See her upcoming magazine coverbelow!
No one wants to wish divorce on anyone, but I’ll be the first to say sometimes they’re the best thing for everyone involved. Katie Holmes seems to be of this mindset as she’s suddenly filling her time with a guest spot on Project Runway All Stars (another season? pinch me!), the August cover of Elle magazine (looking amazing) and apparently an upcoming runway show at New York Fashion Week in September.
We can only speculate as to the way Katie’s feeling at the moment — at worst she’s staying busy to counter divorce grief, at best she’s feeling an acute sense of freedom — but we can get really excited to see her blossoming on her own. I’m personally interested to see if this trend continues, but for now I just have to give Katie kudos for exercising some serious poise and grace in less than easy circumstances.

Her fashion sense bores me to tears. It always has; before Tom, during Tom, and I am positive it’ll make me snore after Tom.

I didn’t really like or dislike her before or after being married to Tom Cruise. I do feel that being married really limited her from focusing on her career. But, then again, she has a child–some women shift the focus to their child rather than their career. If she is happier divorced, good for her.

I think Tom was holding Katie back from her life. He was controlling what she could do/could not do. Suri was also a focus of their arguments. Tom was restrained in his parenting and did not want to discipline her. Whereas Katie believed discipline guided Suri in her growing up in a healthy way. Now since Katie is free of her ex she can grow the way she wants to.
I am all for Katie feeling free and wish her and Suri the best.
I think Tom will feel sad for a while but bounce back.
I hope they do not become another Katy Perry and Russell Brand.
They can still be friendly towards each other; even though Katie wants sole custody of Suri.

I liked Katie ever since Dawson Creek. and when she got married I was happy for her, but it seems like ever since she got married she hasn’t done much for her career, and that could be because she has a daughter. I hope with this divorce, she can get back to focusing on her and her career.

I don’t know much about them but I always got the impression Katie stopped loving Tom a long time ago but they faked it for Suri’s sake. I guess she realized it was better for all involved to finally make the split. He’s always seemed a little psycho to me.
