It’s summertime, which means people are off to new destinations for a little bit of vacation fun. Some people go abroad, some to visit family and others just down the road to the next town over. But soon the super-wealthy and super-adventurous will have a daring new place to spend their time off — outer space.
Excalibur Almaz, an Isle of Man-based company, has announced that between 2015 and 2025, they will be selling about 30 seats aboard their recycled Russian spacecraft — all bound for the moon. It’ll take about two years to develop and renovate the 1970s-era Soviet crafts, and tickets are estimated to sell for about 150 million dollars (yikes!).
Sadly, it does not appear that these moon trips will include actually landing on the moon, but do involve orbiting it. Not as cool as a Jetsons episode, but definitely still amazing!
I don’t know about you, but if I had that kind of money to spare, I’d be first in line to blast into space. Seriously, that would be the best vacation ever! Incredibly dangerous, yes, but totally worth it. Alas, I do not have a couple hundred million dollars sitting nicely in my pocket, so I can only hope that this endeavor is one more step towards a science fiction-esque world of feasible, inexpensive space travel.
Lovelies, if you had the money, would you take a vacation to the moon? Or is it unnecessarily dangerous and wasteful?
