Following last year’s Netflix controversy in which the company attempted to pull in more dough by splitting their mailed-in DVDs and streaming media into two companies, many long-time users deactivated their membership in protest. Netflix quickly reneged on the deal, but the damage was already done. Now, the Netflix Instant, the feature that boasts a huge assortment of movies that are available at the click of a button, still incites outrage over movies being dropped from the selection.
I’m still a member of Netflix Instant despite the backlash. The company offers a variety of entertainment that can be streamed instantly on many outlets. Mainly laptops, eReaders, gaming consoles and smart phones. Listed after the jump are some of the awesome features that keep me a customer.
1. Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV Series
This is one of my favorite TV shows (See my bio!) and I love being able to watch any episode I’m in the mood for. Netflix Instant supplies us with popular TV series, both ended and still running, such as Mad Men, Frasier, The X-Files, 30 Rock, Portlandia, Twin Peaks, Louie, Parks and Recreation, Lost, Arrested Development…. the list goes on and on.
2. Workout videos
I’m a runner but I can’t take the heat this summer, so these exercise DVDs offer great workouts right in your living room. There are many Pilates, yoga and fitness workouts provided on Instant, all with beginner to expert levels for you to choose from. The DVD covers look pretty corny, but the exercises really work!
3. Documentaries
There are a surprising amount of Hollywood classics on the Netflix Instant roster. Every genre to choose from also has a “Classic” sub-genre, so the selection boasts legendary sci-fi thrillers, westerns, comedies, musicals and dramas.
5. Cult classics
Netflix Instant overall has a weird selection, thus cult films dominate. So bad, it’s good. The goofy, peculiar and usually raunchy are hot commodities on Instant and always worth watching.
What are you favorite movies on Netflix? What do you think of the selection?

Lol, I actually just got done watching a documentary on Netflix. I’m a fan.

I had the instant streaming as well as the DVD plan. I really do not like Netflix, but I dont have cable atm, so until then I am still going to have it. I had to get rid of the DVD part though because literally every month (once 3 in a month….) I would get damaged disks…. It started to piss me off.. So I just have the instant one but am running out of things to watch :/

Did anyone else see Being Elmo? It was actually really interesting. Made me cry like a baby when they mentioned Jim Henson passing though haha.
And they have Breaking Bad, just one of the best shows. Weeds, Charmed, Desperate Housewives, so many great shows! They’ve even added 90210, Vampire Diaries, Gossip Girl. I could go on and on lol.

I tried Netflix for a month and I didn’t like it. The movies suck and the TV shows suck. Some of the documentaries are good, but they didn’t have most of the docs that I wanted to watch. It’s really not worth paying money for what I’ve just been getting for free anyway.

I never used to have much time to watch TV so I haven’t really followed any shows in the last 10 years so it only made sense to cancel the cable TV service. We still have high speed internet and Netflix instant, which I actually like because I can watch at my own pace and there is a lot of shows/movies I find interesting that I have never seen before. The only thing I don’t like about it is that sometimes you get sucked in and you watch several episodes–instead of doing chores.

I have Netfix through DVD. I have no issues with it. I love it. I think in the 2 yrs I’ve had it I’ve had 1 or 2 bad discs. No biggie

I love Netflix Instant. I used to use the UK equivalent, but you had to pay extra to watch certain movies and the service was pretty appalling. I’ve had no problems with Netflix whatsoever, plus it’s only £6 a month, so it’s easily affordable.

I didn’t know they had workout videos….awesome!

I started watching Prison Break on watch instantly and it literally took over my life lol. I’m almost done with it but i love watch instantly.

I like it because it has a lot of kids movies so that I don’t have to go out and buy each one. I also like the classics and the foreign films. I wish I could make time to watch 1-3 movies per week. I might finish before the end of the year if that were the case.

I dropped netflix shortly after the attempted “spit” and switched to Amazon Prime. I was planning on getting Prime for my Kindle Fire anyway for the free books, it was a bonus that it came with streaming, which was the real decider in canceling my netflix account (I had it on hold for a few months while first starting with Prime, but decided they were almost identical and it was cheaper getting rid of netflix).
With Amazon Prime I get free books, free streaming (on the same stuff netflix has) and discounted shipping if I buy something from Amazon, which I don’t really do, but it’s there if I ever choose too.
Prime was $79 for 12 months.

Netflix has Mad Men. That alone makes the $8 a month worth it.

Trying to think of some shows that I loved but never saw before Netflix or never watched from the beginning.. Parenthood, Weeds, Roseanne, Grey’s Anatomy, ummm, Dexter, Gossip Girl, some others. I love the Independent movies as well. The only thing I really hate about Netflix is how slow they take to update shows. =\ Still waiting for Grey’s to update. And Parenthood. And Weeds. ._.

I love Netflix simply because I can control what my kids watch and no commercials. We watch a lot of Dora the Explorer, Diego, Word Girl, and other shows from the Sprout channel. I love it.

I have netflix instand plaus 2 at a time dvd’s. I love it. I may get a kindle, so my instant may go to prime, but I have had netflix since like 2007 I think and really enjoy it. I am currently watching the x-files, lockdown, and i almost got away with it. But I am gonna watch frasier or quantum leap next. I also alreayd watched how i met your mother and the wonder years, as well as, angel. they aslo have all the star treks too. But, if you are wanting new and great movies, dont get instant,m just get the dvd/disk, instant is more for foreign films, documentaries, and tv shows than blockbuster movies (though they do have a few of these).
Oh, and NO FREAKIN COMMERCIALS!!!

I have Netflix & I have loved it, my only compliant is the lack of decent new arrivals. I am ok with B’s even c+ but F- /horror or porn isn’t what I signed up for. I have been using Amazon Prime as well but it supplements Netflix.
guest
Number one is reason enough. I thought Netflix was stupid and then we decided to get the free trial and we are all hooked.
guest
All of the star treks free and organized? Yes, please.

I like Netflix for all of the reasons listed, plus the BBC sitcoms, live concerts, Korean/Japanese dramas & movies, the foreign & independent films, etc…I was sad to see that A Clockwork Orange is no longer in my Queue though

i have netflix and hulu plus and NO CABLE! it’s fucking great, i can watch them through my xbox on my 55″ tv, and netflix and hulu have HD videos! i pay $8/mo for each service, way cheaper than cable, and i get everything on demand, no ads on netflix, limited amount of ads on hulu. there’s no other way to go!
i enjoy netflix when i’m baked and wanna watch a random movie i’ve never heard of, or watching tv shows…..nip/tuck, lost, prison break, glee, mad men, the twilight zone, 24, weeds, breaking bad, family guy, american dad, the cleveland show, king of the hill….damn i could go on and on.

I recently signed up for Instant and was pretty bummed at first by the very limited movie selection. Then I saw the list of bad, low-budget horror movies. “Mega Shark versus Crocosaurus”, “Gingerbread Man 3: Saturday Night Cleaver”, “Ticked Off Trannies with Knives”, and “Killer Klowns from Outer Space”? It’s worth keeping Netflix around just for the lulz. They have a pretty awesome selection of TV shows too!
guest
@shpadoinkle12@xanga - GingerDead 3 was HILARIOUS lol…
I love all the BBC and PBS Masterpiece stuff, classic movies, and the awful ones with 1/2 a star ratings =) Yeah, I wish they would get new stuff quicker but that’s what the internet is for!

You can strike Workouts off your list of reasons to keep Netflix since they pulled all of the streaming ones at the beginning of the month. And now, you can’t even get dvd workouts since it looks like everyone shifted to those and have bogged down the queue.
