The saying ‘blondes have more fun‘ has always bothered me. I’m a brunette and I have plenty of fun, but I had always wondered what it would be like. A few summers ago, I took the plunge into the world of bleach blonde hair. It was the worst hair decision I had ever made.
While bleached out locks may look amazing on stars like Amber Heard and Taylor Momsen (who I was surprisingly compared to a lot as a blonde), It just wasn’t a good look for me. My eyes are too dark and my skin is too olive. The guy I was dating at the time said stuff like “It just doesn’t look natural.” Well, duh! It wasn’t meant to look natural, but it was meant to look awesome…and it just didn’t. It felt like spaghetti and required a lot of styling just to make it look semi-healthy. I went back dark in a matter of months.
I wasn’t lucky enough to pull off being a blonde, but these style icons and celebrities totally are. Here are some of my favorite bleach blondes.
Have you ever wanted to be a platinum blonde?

I’ve gone honey blonde in the past, but platinum blonde? No. Oddly enough, most people said my skin tone and the honey blonde color seemed to go well together. Go figure. Heh, too much work for touch-ups so I returned to my original hair color.

I like this blond:

How is Lady Gaga not considered a bleach blonde style icon?
guest
No, I have never aspired to be a platinum blond. I couldn’t even keep up with subtle highlights. Too expensive and time consuming to maintain.

I went platinum blonde once. I have black eyebrows and surprisingly, it looked really good. But, I didn’t want to deal with touch-ups, so as soon as my roots started showing I died my hair back to my original color.

Bleach blonde hair color always looks unhealthy to me, and that’s on top of the damage done to hair when degrading its color so drastically. The very few people who still retain the color naturally rarely have visible eyebrows or other preferable aesthetic qualities. In short, most people look better with darker hair.

I’m a natural blonde but when I was a lifeguard my hair would go platinum from the sun exposure.

I prefer strawberry blonde. Most platinum blonde people either look trashy, alien-like or sick. I’ve seen very few who can pull it off. These celebrities don’t look good either.

@lizpimphat@xanga - tbh shes not that great looking from a guys perspective. Amber Heard, i made a post of her last week, and i agree, shes gorgeous

@mrqtran@xanga - Being a style icon has little to nothing to do with being appealing to a man

@mrqtran@xanga - if u wanna make a statement like that, lol, her hair probably isnt even bleach blonde, let alone being REAL hair. style? hows wearing telephones on your head stylish? all her get ups “costumes” are COSTUMES they’re for strictly the purpose of entertainment. she probably wears tshirts and sweats on regular monday mornings like the rest of us.

anyone can be an icon, but only those who follow those icons are the ones who make them into icons, so technically she can be your “style” icon but really? your gonna paint triangles and shit on your face to prove she’s the icon or style your want to show to people?
guest
im not judging you or anyone else who likes lady gaga’s shit, but her music definitely is alot more stylish than her actual style.

@mrqtran@xanga - I think you just don’t understand what a style icon is. I would argue that even loads of celebrities look to Gaga as a style icon. Katy Perry is a prime example but if you think about it you’ll see it all over the red carpet. Lady Gaga is an epic style icon whether you like it or not. She just is.

@The_Woods_Of_Oz@xanga - red carpet doesnt mean ur stylish. u can make them ur style icon, but style doesnt make them icons in the first place its their music. people like their “entertaining clothes” doesnt make it stylish, maybe original and thats what people look for, but style wise you dont wear dumb shit like blue wigs and candy coated clothing TO ANYTHING. how can that certain style be worn to any event? you’d look like a fool if you weren’t lady gaga or katy perry. think about it.

@The_Woods_Of_Oz@xanga - and if you read above, i even broke it down for you. to a science in fact.
guest
@mrqtran@xanga - I’ll say it again. You don’t get it. Everything you keep arguing is subjective and not a “science.” Which is why you can’t say with any absolute authority that someone is not a style icon or that blue wigs are not a statement that affects other people. I argue that they do. I see it around me in Chicago.

@The_Woods_Of_Oz@xanga - how do u think i dont understand? because i dont see it your way. because my opinion is what i believe? im arguing that lady gaga isnt bleach blonde style icon. like i said, anyone can be an icon whether u follow them or not is what makes them your specific icon and in this case, a style icon. but to me, she’s a entertainer, entertainment icon more than bleach blonde and style. hence why i say, and if you actually read my shit before saying i dont understand, which i perfectly do, she isnt. people may look to her for ideas and “certain” looks, but they just want to have some originality to separate themselves frmo the rest of the celebrities. i can understand that, but to say her style is something to set trends? i dont think so, japanese people have been on that shit for years, shes not some style icon, shes a biter like the rest of us.

I love Grace Kelly- she was a stunning blonde. When I was a child my hair was naturally platinum blonde but as soon as I hit puberty it darkened up. My hair has been every color but I get the most compliments when it is ultra white blonde or wheat blonde or a blazing red color. I think skin tone does play an essential role.
