I’m not sure where it comes from, but for some reason little kids like to try to cut each others’ hair. As a hairdresser, I end up fixing little kid at home haircuts more often than you’d think. So when a friend of mine insisted that I listen to this interview, I knew it was going to be a winner.
Jeff Cohen, a reporter at WNPR, experienced this occurrence first hand. He decided to interview his 3 and 5 year-old daughters after the 5 year-old took it upon herself to cut the 3 year-old’s hair. The result? A super cute, honest and hilarious retelling the worst haircut ever.
Did you ever do this? Because I did. Here is my story.
One time in 6th grade, a friend and I decided it was a good idea to cut my bangs. And not just cut my bangs, but shave them off. I’m not kidding. We thought this was a good idea. It resulted in my mother cutting some of my other hair to make it look like I had bangs… it didn’t work. In the end, nothing was fixed and my school principal made me wear a hat everyday.
The worst part about that experience was not that I had the worst hair cut ever, but that I had just moved to that school. I wasn’t just the girl with the weird hair, I was the new girl with the weird hair. Worst ever.

I did almost the same thing to my bangs when I was 8. I cut them to my scalp.

bahaha, the little girl relaying her mother’s reaction- priceless! This audio is really really funny. I never cut my hair as a little kid. I remember one of my little brother’s friends cut hers (she was like 3 at the time) and her parents tried to “fix” it without giving her a total boy haircut- it just looked bizarre for the longest time- patches really really short. I was 8 then and I guess it stuck with me, never cut my own hair until high school.

LMAO “Everyone does this once, or twice, or three times, or twice. I mean, once.” I can’t wait to have kids.

I’ve cut my hair growing up. My Memaw used to be a hair dresser in the 60′s and she always gave me those thick straight across bangs and I hated it. HATED IT! So I cut them myself which always turned out worse, but I was trying to keep from her cutting them. haha. I cut my own bangs now, I’m obviously better than I was when I was 3-5. My baby sis did the exact same thing trying to avoid my Memaw. xD She cut hers completely off and walked into my Grandmother’s kitchen and triumphantly exclaimed, “HA! Try to cut them now Memaw! I don’t have bangs anymore!” Then swished away laughing manically. It was cute but she really didn’t have bangs for several weeks.

Luckily my sister only cut our barbies hair, not mine. I don’t think I ever cut hers.

My niece cut the top part of her hair down to the scalp…like the entire top part. It’s grown out some but it still looks awful. She calls it her “Joe Dirts”.

Why do the kids at that age have scissors with no parental supervision? Cute story, but just wanted to point out the safety issue. That wouldn’t have happened in my house, scissors are with knives away from my kids’ reach (they are 6 and 3}.

@sarahsmurfette@xanga - Just want to point out that the scissors were out of reach in this story. She said she climbed up to get them. Sometimes a horrible haircut is good for a kid.
This is a super cute interview. I can picture my two sisters doing that to each other.

My mother walked into the room and gasped because my younger brother and I had much less hair. She was confident that we had cut each other’s hair, but we proudly proclaimed that we had cut our own hair. We were 4 and 5, and we sported half bangs (only one side snipped) for the entire summer. We have a great pic of each other hugging immediately after the event.

“and what did you do with the hair?”
“i hid it under the wadiator”
“hair cutting takes.. like a lotta concentration”
hahah so cute
