The only thing that ever seems to change about me is the way I style my hair. Summer is not the kindest season to my mane. It seems to pull a Pinocchio and simply grow bigger and bigger at the first sign of humidity.
I absolutely love straightening my hair, but it simply becomes impossible to do so when the weather is above 75 degrees. I’d be risking a mess by doing so, allowing my hair to slowly revert back to its curls when moisture is in the air. I’m stuck embracing my curly hair for the hot summer months. It might sound like I’m overly complaining, but I just feel less like myself with curly hair.
For one, I was born with curly hair – I share the same luscious locks with my mother, and we look pretty similar to twins when we both have our hair curly. I love my mother dearly but I already look so much like her that I feel like I have my own identity when my hair is straight.
It is also much easier to get up and be ready for the day with straight hair. I really enjoy showering at night, but when I wake up after leaving my hair to curl, I usually have a serious case of bedhead. While I often have to run a straightener over my tamed tresses in the morning, it’s much easier to look professional when I don’t look like I rolled in a carpet for a few hours.
It’s really a win-lose situation. In theory it takes much less time for me to put some mousse in my hair and be done with it than blow dry and straighten it. Oh, and seriously damaging it in the process. My split ends are a force to be reckoned with even when I get regular hair cuts. Despite this, I love the feeling of silky smooth hair and can’t seem to live without it.
I completely believe in the adage “you want what you don’t have.” I assume I only want straight hair so badly because I don’t naturally have it.
Here’s to spending the next two months pining over straight hair while I become increasingly bored with my curls. Yet by the middle of September, I’ll be annoyed and tired of my blow dryer. If only my hair would satisfy me, this battle would be much less intense.
Lovelies, do you prefer your hair straight or curly? Do you wish your hair naturally styled a different way?

Agreed. I have curly hair and it splits so easily. I find split ends no matter how often I trim it. It’s so dang fragile!

I was born with mainly straight/slightly wavy hair. during my adolescence i tried a shampoo for my irritated scalp and it made my hair kind of curly for a while. it’s slowly reverting back to it’s original ways thankfully. I’ve tried embracing it and curl my hair from time to time, and while i like it, and it’s easier in the summer (with all the frizz!), i still prefer my straight hair. like you said, i feel more like “myself” when my hair is pin straight, it’s basically my signature.

I used to constantly straighten my naturally, slightly wavy hair with a hair straightener, magic straight perm, and such. I coveted the super straight, glossy locks like other Asian girls. All the stuff I did to my hair took its toll. Finally, I decided to just accept my hair and I haven’t looked back. I get a lot of compliments with my wavy hair. Once in a while, I’ll straighten my hair because I like the look. I guess people always want what they don’t have.

What ever my hair wants to do because it’s not gonna listen to me. I just leave my hair natural ( some of it is straight, some of it goes wavy) because the last thing I want to put near my face in the summer is something that produces heat.

I prefer my hair curly. I get bored with my hair when I straighten it. A year had passed the last time I straightened my hair. I don’t see myself doing it again any time soon.

My hair isn’t quite as straight as I like it to be, it has a slight wave. I find that it is easiest to just leave my hair in its natural state. Faster, easier and if properly managed, looks better than if you spent hours trying to make it do the opposite. I do like how it looks straight, and how it looks when I curl it…but straightening is quicker than curling.

I doubt your hair is as curly as mine, and I can get it straight by ironing it, and leaving in a smoothing creme. If I feel it getting puffy, I twist it for a half hour and then let it go.

I assure you your hair doesn’t get bigger than mine can. But I embraced my natural hair and no straightening equipment has touched my hair in two years!!

My hair is insanely curly – it also goes ridiculously frizzy when it’s humid or when ANY whatever whatsoever falls on it, it’s so frustrating! But it doesn’t take long for me to straighten it either, so I don’t mind straightening it

i love my straight hair, have never wished for curly.

I’ve got curly hair. I’ve only straighten my hair twice. I seriously can’t see myself spending the time and money for the products to straighten my hair daily. I feel like I’d be fighting an up hill battle that I just don’t feel like I’d win. For myself, I just used products for curly hair and pretty much let my hair do it’s own thing.

My hair is curly — I have loose curls rather than tight curls. When I add mousse to it the curls become a little tighter. I actually love my natural hair. I also like to straighten it but in this weather, it curls anyway…so what’s the point? I mean, it looks pretty when it curls because of the humidity or rain, but I might as well leave it natural. I’m going with curly hair!

I’m happy with my naturally straight hair since it’s easier for me to manage and I rarely get any tangles. However, straight hair can be boring to me so I like to braid it when my hair is damp and wake up to textured waves
. My hair usually cooperates with me and the curls do stay only IF the heat setting is high but sometimes I wish it would hold curls better without hairspray because well.. I just hate that stuff. I think curly hair on women make them appear much more feminine and cute, when I was younger I used to wish I was born with lovely loose curls
. Although my hair is straight, sometimes I’ll straighten it if I so happens to get a dent somehow or if my hair is looking a little frizzy that day
