Hooray, I just graduated college! But now there’s all this college debt that I have to deal with (boooo!). And now I’m managing a household composed of both me and my boyfriend (who is currently finishing up one of his three degrees. Needless to say, we’re pretty broke right now. But it’s okay, because we’ve found ways to use household objects as more than what they’re “supposed” to do. Check out our ideas and add your own!
Let’s start with the one I’m surprised more women don’t know: Hair conditioner can also work as body lotion. They have a lot of the same ingredients, and the cheaper water-based conditioners can absorb very quickly into the skin. This can save so much money, especially if you have dry skin or are prone to razor burn like I am. Read on for more double-whammie ideas, and feel free to add your own!
Do you often use things for something other that their original purpose? Are they different than these here?

There’s no captions on any of these.

With the missing captions, it’s hard to know what their other uses are, so here are my assumptions: baking soda/peroxide toothpaste, baking soda/water acne cream, no clue, dinner substitute, coffee grounds as an air freshner, stain cleaner.

@SUPletstake___surveys@xanga - That is why Lovelyishers should stop posting these things via the website’s crappy gallery “system.” It’s just… omg. it’s not like it’s harder to post these things into an actual same-page list, and it’s not like people will be like “OMG look at how much I have to scroll because of all the pics I’m not reading this,” since the loading for new pages is more annoying than just more scrolling.
But anyways. The conditioner thing CAN be okay, but imo only if you use it as a in-shower/bath type thing because leaving it on the skin like that with regular use could lead to irritation and itching etc. This happened when I tired it as an eye makeup remover, even with rinsing it off it still bothered my skin.
As for the others, the first is suggesting using baking soda to brush teeth which I do not at all recommend if you think you are at all at risk of sensitive teeth or currently have sensitive teeth/gums. The second is likely suggesting using toothpaste on zits, which I also don’t recommend because it can easily burn and/or irritate the skin, which can just make the zit worse. Much better off to just buy something that you know will work for you, since most spot treatments can still last quite a while and so the price in the long-run really isnt’ THAT much. The others I have no idea, good luck.

@xsimplepleasuresx@xanga - For some reason the only ideas I got with the curling iron were to curl your eye lashes or to iron your clothing :/

If you wear contacts, saline solution and eyedrops can make an excellent eye makeup remover in a pinch.
Alternately, if your hair drinks conditioner, body lotion can double to smooth your hair.

who the hell looked over this before publishing it? lol

@ashleynicole - Yeah, I tried and tried, and I would never recommend their alternative use for it, using plastic as a hammer will most likely result in broken plastic.

you aren’t seriously trying to tell me that you want me to use my expensive curling iron for a freaking HAMMER. i can use a multitude of other things that doesn’t include something that a) i spent a lot of money on and b) can be very easily broken.
“oh damn, no hammer around. LETS GET THE CURLING IRON OUT LADIES.”

I use conditioner as a substitute for shaving cream if I don’t have any at the moment. I also use toothpaste to relieve the pain of burns (say i accidentally touched the curling iron with a part of my skin, dab some toothpaste on it and it’ll relieve the burning feeling for a little). I do the yogurt and coffee grinder thing you mentioned already. Definitely helps!

Could someone please explain the yogurt container thing to me?
Also, using a curling iron as a hammer is just stupid. I’m sorry, but it is. A book could do that, a block of wood, a shoe maybe. That’s just dumb, and that chick looks like a dumb blonde alright. >_<
Let me just bang my curling iron to the wall!

@H2O_mElOnGeEk@xanga -
You eat the yogurt.
You clean the container.
You save it for later use
(I.E storing extra Chocolate Chips, Left Over Mashed Potatoes or holding crafting items)
It is like Tupperware….. Get it?

I agree. I HATE the gallery!

Can I point out that if you are using baking soda instead of toothpaste, you won’t have toothpaste to put on your zits?? Also, instead of using yogurt containers (because the only ones I have seen with resealable lids are the ginormous containers or like, sour cream), just save the plastic take-out containers most Chinese restaurants use now. And like many others have said, I would never use a curling iron of all things has a hammer.

for everyone complaining bout captions they are there, you just need to let the page load give it a few extra seconds and they pop up. This has been a problem of mind with all the post with pictures like this. and the captions always show up after a few seconds.
