In the spirit of keeping home life interesting, my boyfriend and I try to take ordinary things and make them sort of “special.” We have a fancy cocktail when we watch Mad Men, we experiment with exotic seasonings for our stovetop popcorn when we watch movies. We try our hand at preparing our favorite dishes at home and enjoy the ceremony just as much as the results. One of our favorite funny things that makes fixing things at home a little more whimsical is using shaped ice cube trays. I know it sounds super-dorky, but you get a sense of satisfaction when you make an ice cube in the shape of a giant faceted diamond, you just do! There are a couple of companies stealing the ice-tray-show as it were lately, and even I’m surprised at their creative ideas for ice cube trays. Take a look at these geeky gadgets below

Everyone would like to think they mix a “killer” drink, but to drive the point home further, stick a daunting shark fin ice cube in your drink. Am I the only one that thinks this is hilarious? Link.

Okay, gross but hilarious. I wouldn’t own these myself, but there has to be an occasion for these denture-shaped ice trays. Maybe an “over the hill” birthday party? But what a funny cheap thrill. Link.

At around $5 to $7 apiece, cute ice cube trays are pretty guilt-free. Check out more of these funny little freezer treats in the gallery, and a recipe for chocolate ice cubes here.

What are your favorites? Do you have any geeky ice trays?
