Kristen Stewart is a rather polarizing actress, and mentioning her name can incite a string of compliments (“She’s great in Adventureland!”) or critiques (“Does she ever smile?”). But new evidence suggests that, like her or not, Stewart is box office gold. Which is probably why she’s now the highest-paid actress in Hollywood. Read the numbers and see who else is on the list here!
Though she seems more “girl next door” than “filthy rich starlet,” Kristen falls into the latter category, having made $34.5 million dollars last year. That number is truly mind-boggling. If I made $34.5 million, I’d probably retreat to a mansion and waltz around in vintage couture all day, a la Edie Beale. But Kristen seems to be very low-key about her wealth (and even wears sneakers on the red carpet) which is probably why it surprised me.
Stewart beat out big names like Cameron Diaz (who comes in a close second at $34 million) and Sandra Bullock (in third place at $25 million). I’m just going to suppress any jealousy and say congrats to Kristen! [via E!]
What do you think of this news?

She doesn’t deserve it.

highest paid actress but definitely not the best right now. twilight totally made her name worth anything at all today

I didn’t realize Cameron Diaz was doing anything anymore, let alone making money. I forgot that “Bad Teacher,” “Green Hornet,” and “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” ever existed. A little sad that so many dollars go into such unmemorable trash.

i love it how shes not bitching around with her money.. i am neutral about kristen.. neither am i a fan or a hater of her..

When people bitch about Kristen Stewart in Twilight, they forget that her acting job was on par with the books’ character. It was crap. It wasn’t meant to Shakespeare. People love crap. It’s so easy to digest! Thus, hugely popular. Kristen Stewart has also played Joan Jett– that wasn’t so much a vulnerable, lack-luster performance?
The fact that she’s wearing sneakers on the red carpet and lives a low-key life is smart. She gets to be comfortable and it causes a buzz because she’s not doing what a woman “should be doing” in her position.
More power to her.

Damn…. where can I sign up to make that kind of money??

I’m glad for her success. She was at the right place at the right time. Sure, her general success came from Twilight franchise–but it is not like she didn’t work at all for her salary. I haven’t seen Snow White yet, but I am interested. And it’s good to hear that she is not squandering her money like some young actors have done in the past. Her fame may or may not be short-lived, an actor’s appeal and length of popularity is uncertain. It is very reassuring to know you have a home to live in and money in the bank. I would do the same, if I happen to earn that kind of money. Buy a modest home, and save the rest to live off of in a humble manner so I have to option to work or not, if I please.

@Youcantsavemenow13@xanga - Audition for the main female lead in Fifty Shades of Grey?
(For the record, I have not read those books.)

good for her. She makes good choices. That’s all. Now she can do whatever she wants.

wow surprising but good for her!

Who knew. Loved her in that snow white movie.

she probably flew there on a multi-million dollar private jet, then pretended that she was modest with her sneakers
then I’d secretly smile inside that I have a rare diamond tiara at home that I wear while I eat my cereal
but I look like I rolled out of bed and onto the red carpet because the homeless chic look that the olsen twins sport look lowkey, but we all know that I’m filthy rich and have secret treasures that I secretly keep for myself

I don’t understand why people have such an issue with the smiling thing. That’s just her personality. Also, I feel like she just has the kind of face where she looks pissed off all the time because of her bone structure. I have the same thing, and people say to me “WHY ARE YOU SAD?” all the time, and I just say “Uh…thats just how my face looks.”
guest
That’s pretty cool.

I have no problem with her being a top paying actress but the highest?! I really loved the movie “snowhite and the huntsman” she did a good job, but i just simply think there are better actresses out there.
guest
Very surprising but good for her! I wonder what she does with ALL that money!

@ShirleyD@xanga - how was it? i was hesitant to watch it because she is generally expressionless

People can bitch about her and say she doesn’t deserve it all they like, but I don’t see them making over $30m. She must be doing something right to be that sought-after as an actress. Good for her!

@UnconventionalButterfly@xanga - Explain why she doesn’t deserve it?
Anyway, I’m happy about her success! She’s been acting for a while and it’s great that she has come to this point on her life.

@Niiksknox@xanga - Shes an awful actress, shes only been good in 3 (Speak, the messengers and the runaways) out of all of the movies shes been in. She makes the same faces in every single movie, the same attitude. The only reason why shes famous is because of Twilight and she sucked in that one too (I happen to love the books). I have yet to the snow white only because shes in it. People keep making her out of be the best actress ever and shes not.
guest
@UnconventionalButterfly@xanga - Just because she’s getting paid a ton of money doesn’t make her the “best actress ever.” It’s okay to not think highly of her as an actress, but like any other person, she deserves to be successful. I don’t think it’s fair for you to use your personal judgement against her. Yeah, you don’t like her, I get that, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t derserve to be successful. You shouldn’t penalize her for having the same attitude in every movie. Maybe she was chosen to play those roles because her personality fit the characters. Just a suggestion!

@Niiksknox@xanga - All i’m reading is “nag, nag nag, preach, nag, blahblah YOU’RE NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE AN OPINION”. So, I got nothing else to say to you.
guest
@UnconventionalButterfly@xanga - Well I have an opinion also. Have a good day!

I think when people say she doesn’t deserve it, they mean as an actress. If she deserves it as a person then hell, if I go audition I should be paid the same amount. She doesn’t really have that many great acting roles, even if it is her personality or a role she plays best. I’m not saying she doesn’t deserve anything because any movie might need that awkward, weird character and she’s good for it. But honestly I think there are way better actors out there that not only were in one or two good films, but can actually play different roles very well.
@winterEnds@xanga - I agree. People love simple things. A book like Twilight that just required the ability to sound out words and comprehend the meaning of them attracts a lot of people. That’s why people absolutely despise English classes. Because when you read a book the teacher makes you go deeper than the actual meaning of what’s going on and even though it’s sometimes a pain in the ass, you actually find out some cool shit about the character and why they did those things. But I’m getting off topic.
I think a lot of people give her too much credit because she’s not only weird and awkward in films, but in real life as well. Hollywood isn’t used to that. And if she’s getting paid almost 35mil for being awkward, then more than half the people in the internet world should be getting paid like that too xD

I think Kristen gets too much hate. I mean the Twilight series is crap so it only makes sense the movies would be too. She captured the essence of Bella very well and that isn’t saying much about the character. She has acted in other movies where she’s not that bad. If it wasn’t Kristen it would’ve been someone else.
guest
She truly deserve it as she is a good looking girl and budding actress. She got a long way to go before one can say she is a good actress but for her age, she is already better than good.

why.

I’m honestly surprised. I don’t hate her but I don’t thinking her acting is up to par for that kind of money. I tend to think she just got lucky with the movies she was cast in… Like really, I would’ve gone to see Snow White and the Huntsman regardless of whether or not she was playing Snow White simply because I liked the plot from what I read in the reviews. And Twilight…considering the fan base, I’m thinking teens would’ve flocked to it no matter who they cast.

@UnconventionalButterfly@xanga - For someone who dislikes Kristen so much, you sure seem to watch all of her movies! Why is that so?
Twilight might have put her name out there but as far as I can see she is still getting tons of offers which means people want to work with her. I suppose they’re all incompetent and out of their minds because you seem to have it all figured out.
Kristen has people like you to thank for her massive fortune - every movie you see, every dollar you pay goes straight to her wallet. She OWNS you and you know it.

*facepalm*

@MyWinterBones@xanga - 1) My opinion wouldn’t be valid if i’ve never seen any of her movies. It would be a moot point of a criticized her acting if i’ve never seen it. Durp 2) I’ve never paid a cent to see her movies, i’ve seen all of them online. Your arguments are invalid.
guest
@UnconventionalButterfly@xanga - Wow, you must care a lot since you’re going through so much trouble to prove that your so called opinions are valid, especially since you blurted out “she doesn’t deserve it” without even backing it up. It’s funny how the only argument you actually had was about her facial expression, how original.. Nice try though.

@MyWinterBones@xanga - I’m actually not going through a lot of trouble at all at “validating” my opinions, I simply stated that If I had never seen her movies, my opinion of her acting wouldn’t be valid. Its logical, no? Its like that saying, don’t knock it until you try it. Secondly, you assumed I’ve paid to see her movies, contributing to her income. I responded with saying that I’ve never paid to see any of her movies, so i’m not contributing to her income. I don’t see how that’s so hard to understand. Now, you can defiantly disagree with my opinion but you’re not giving me any valid arguments to why you think her acting skills to deserve the high pay, you’re just gripping at straws to try to bring down my opinion, which isn’t very smart.

surprised at the stat and can’t comment whether she deserves it or not
but i do like her not-give-a-shit attitude rather than flaunt her wealth through gaudy clothing and lifestyle many “artists” are guilty of

Very surprised to read that she’s Hollywood’s Highest Paid Actress considering her age, and people who have been in the Business long before her.
People think that she sucks as an actress, but I think she’s a good one. First movie I recognized her in (saw her in Panic Room, but totally forgot she was in it) was “Speak.” Having read the book: I think she did an amazing job portraying the character, and I thought she had great potential. I also loved her as “Joan Jett” in “The Runaways” and thought she had a lot of edge.
I think she did fine in the Twilight Franchise (though the Bella in the book was far more emotional [cried more] than what was portrayed. Which is why I loved how they made her more emotional in, “Breaking Dawn.” She did a phenomenal job during the Birthing Scene, in unimaginable pain). Also love the scene in “New Moon” where she’s hyperventilating after stopping Edward from showing himself to the Humans. I thought it was so real and natural. Not an easy thing to pretend like you’re losing it, when your not.
But anyhow this comment is too long and probably annoying. So I’ll end it here.

@UnconventionalButterfly@xanga - Did I say somewhere that she deserves being the highest paid actress in Hollywood? I think you need to re-read my comment because I was just replying to yours since I’m not a fond of people giving her so much crap because of their personal problems with her. It’s always the same stuff – she doesn’t smile enough, her facial expressions are the same, she’s “bitchy” and so on. Secondly (and this is my opinon not a fact so calm down) but I think your excuse for why you watch her movies is rather pathetic. I personally can’t stand Miley Cyrus’ acting after watching The Last Song but I would never download her movies just to have a right to say she doesn’t deserve to be where she is. Yes, we’re all different, but it’s not exactly news that people love to hate on Kristen Stewart. Some are very open about it, others try to conceal it with lame excuses. Remember, this is my opinon.
I didn’t say you were lying after you wrote that you didn’t pay for her income so I don’t see where you got the idea that I don’t understand. I didn’t even comment on it afterwards. You clearly can’t stand being confronted which is why you’re being defensive. I happen to like Kristen, I think she loves what she’s doing and although some people have a hard time comprehending this, she’s one of the few who just wants to be an actress, not a super star. People like entertaining movies, they want a good story and she gives them that. You’re entitled to disagree, but this girl works hard and it’s paid off. Btw, highest paid actress is not the same as best actress so saying she doesn’t deserve it because you don’t like her acting makes no sense. For blockbusters like Twilight with a huge budget, obviously the actors are gonna get paid more. The movies have made over a billion in total so whether the acting is Oscar material or not shouldn’t affect her paycheck.

That IS amazing! I believe she deserves it. If she didn’t, she wouldn’t keep booking jobs. All these people putting her down and bashing her only put her name out there more. I honestly really love how real she is, and how comfortable she can be along with her glamour.
