Everyone knows the old fashioned trick of using lemon juice to bring out natural highlights, but not everyone keeps lemons on hand for the last-minute tanning session. Here are four just-as-common food products that’ll give your hair the same sun-streaked look:
1. Honey
Though this method is probably the messiest, it also nourishes damaged hair and doesn’t require sunlight. Just apply the honey to damp hair and let sit for an hour or two, and in no time you’ll have pretty, subtle highlights and fresh, bouncy hair.
2. Olive Oil
Also known for being a fabulous conditioner, olive oil can bring a natural lightness to your hair. Just like you would with lemon juice, comb the oil through your hair and let the sun do the rest.
3. Chamomile Tea
This method is recommended for brunettes who want golden highlights. Brew the tea and let it cool, then soak your hair and sit in the sun for an hour. This is probably the gentlest method of highlighting, and definitely the easiest to wash out.
4. Beer
Yup. That’s right. Beer. Light beers, with the help of sunlight, are a great way to get a sun-kissed look. (Just be sure to wash the scent out thoroughly before going out with friends.)
Would you try any of these subtle blonding techniques?

Yeah, I’ll give the olive oil a go tonight. Why not… plus I need to lighten this mop up for a wedding this fall.

I spray mine with 3% hydrogen peroxide then I deep condition later on.

May be fun to try all of these! I know when I was young my mom would spritz me with lemon juice like when I was going to be in the sun for a good while. Not sure how well it worked but they have special creams, shampoos, and conditioners for things like that now. Probably not all that cheap but I think it lasts a while.
