A couple weeks ago, I posted about my love of villains. My all-time favorite villainess is Maleficent, the evil conspirator of Sleeping Beauty, will now become the titular focus in Disney’s fairy tale reboot, Maleficent. Who other than Angelina Jolie could nail this part? Today, fans finally beheld her first promotional shot as one of the greatest villains of all time.

Along with the first look, Disney also released important details about the upcoming film, including an unexpected angle in the usual fairy tale plot:

This is the untold story of Disney’s most beloved villain, Maleficent, from the 1959 classic “Sleeping Beauty.” The film reveals the events that hardened her heart and drove her to curse the baby, Aurora.

Another tidbit that has me all giddy is the casting of Aurora – Super 8‘s Elle Fanning!

Angelina Jolie hasn’t acted in two years, but was itching to play Aurora’s arch-nemesis. I love how Angelina’s role choice almost sticks it to her detractors. You wanna see evil? She’ll show you evil! From her first shot as Maleficent, she seems to emit a hint of Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman, giving Maleficent’s icy composure a sly and mischievous essence. Although the movie will not be released until March 14, 2014, I can’t wait to see if the foxy actress does Maleficent justice on the silver screen.

How do you feel about Angelina Jolie’s attempt at Maleficent?
