I love hitting the pool in the summer and getting my tan on but last summer I became captivated with a more modest style: high-waisted swimwear.
I searched high and low and finally settled on a basic black ruched pair from J. Crew. They were expensive, but well definitely last me more than a few summers! Also, the ruching makes them super flattering.
Taylor Swift pulled off the high-waisted swim effortlessly. This J.Crew suit is very similar, and what I love most that is the bottoms don’t go all the way up to your belly button, but they are still high-waisted.
The buttons on Annalynne McCord’s swim bottoms add even more pinup vibe- love it!
What do you think of this trend? Do you dig the retro vibes, or would you rather stick with your bikini?

Dig the retro and it’s flattering to juicy booty thighed girls
I’m getting one from modcloth very sailor looking
I mean all body types are lovely but these just suit the thicker gals a little better… and the hipsters slimmer gals better. but still look lovely in both. (not just trying to save my own ass i really believe that. lol)

You really have to have the right body to pull this look off. If I am going to wear a two piece, it has to be high waisted b/c I don’t want to show off my cesarean scar.
guest
i’m gonna give it a try. i have a pudgy tummy and that keeps me from bikinis usually.

I have a high waisted bottom from American Apparel. I love it. It’s very flattering

A definite yay, especially for those who like myself, are self conscious about their tummy!. It really gives a classy look without looking to trashy. It’s really flattering also because it highlights anybody’s waist
.

it looks silly like she intentionally pulled her bottom super high to give herself a front wedgieO.o it hides the hips and flattens the butt and does the opposite of being form flattering
she’d have to have nice waist to hips ratio to get away with this look and super hot legs. probably Beyonce

visually creates a shorter torso and longer legs. maybe i need them. xD

Yayyy on shapeless bodies, but I have a very curvy figure! My hips are massive – I don’t know if they bottoms would even stretch lol! x

I have no idea who Annalynne McCord is, or why she stole Paddington’s overcoat to use as swim trunks, but I am vastly chagrined by it.

This just makes thighs look bigger and butts sadder. No way.

Love retro. I also have a retro inspired bathing suit and bikini in the sailors style. I simply love it! However, the patern and kind of style is important unless it looks TOO old.
guest
Not flattering, even if you’re as thin as the models.

I think people find it so unflattering bc they are not used to the look. I often found new trends unflattering bc the current trends make me focus on certain body parts and proportions to ‘rate’ a persons look, and the new ones ‘distort’ that.
I hate all bikinis for me personally, but I think it looks good on the models. Perhaps it’s something that isn’t for every figure 8as most things are) but why not.

I think they’re awkward. They make you look like ou have lovehandles, your butt look flat & highlight any bit of stomach you have. I showed my boyfriend pictures of them and he thought they were the ugliest things he’d ever seen.

cute <3

Love it! It’s good for girls with thicker hips like me.

I think these are adorable. Were I not in a cast, I think it’d be my next purchase.
guest
Yay

I’m all about low rise and have never been a fan of high waist anything.
guest
Meh, I just bought a pin-up style swim dress, super retro and adorable.
guest
I think it’s cute. I prefer the bikini look, but this would be a good option if that was too revealing or uncomfortable for someone who didn’t want to wear a one piece.
guest
it looks good on annalynne, but otherwise, hell no. hideous. maybe on curvier girls.
guest
nay. I wouldn’t ever wear it.

I love this style. I d imagine I’d feel more, “secure” than in a bikini triangle bottom. My number one fear is showin off my whole cooch. Not even my swim top coming undone.. it’s my bottoms.
Don’t know how it’d fare for.. not curvy people though. I don’t think it’d be a problem but who knows.

@under_the_carpet@xanga - Yeah, I think so too. I mean before the trend of bikinis started, these type of bathing suits are what the average women wore– all sorts of high- waisted bottoms!
All I can say is just make sure you find the right pair of high- waisted swim bottom that actually suits you if you’re a retrosexual gal.
guest
I don’t think it ever looks good on anyone.
guest
I have a curvy body so I probably wouldn’t be able to pull this look off. I feel as though a bikini would do my body more justice. Now that I think about it, even if my body wasn’t curvy, I still wouldn’t follow this trend. Weird tan O_o
