I’m not a fan of patterns, prints or embellishments. (Definitely not a fan of 20 of these in one garment *cough* Forever 21.) However, ruling out these elements can leave me with some rather blasé outfits. Luckily, there is a tried and true technique that can add charm and appeal to my elected banality – pops of color.

What can I say? I love the minimalist look because these classic styles can be mixed and matched aplenty with other pieces of my wardrobe. I’m bound to trade in any outrageous garment that I found trendy at the time, but my basics are in for the long haul. The perfect touch I add to much of my daily dress is a pop of color. Whether it’s a simple blue skirt, bright orange purse or turquoise sunglasses, I don’t feel like my ensemble is complete until I add that last, vital component. Besides, this rule gives great cause for buying colorful footwear.

Gorgeous, saturated hues dominate wardrobes worldwide, but a small hint can provide a coquettish aura to an otherwise demure outfit. So if you feel like your closet is slacking in oomph, throw in a splash of color that draws the eye. Bold kicks, striking scarves and bright belts are all game to make your fashion statement a unique one. Take a look at some of my pop-of-color inspiration in the gallery!

Looks like blue skirts are my “thing”. And bad posing.

Do you add pops of color? If so, what’s your favorite item that stands out?
