Sports isn’t a common topic in the land of Lovelyish (Which breaks my heart since all I watch is basketball and Buffy), so please allow me to brush the cobwebs off of our athletic digital tome. I love the Olympics, but hate to wait four years to gawk at such athletic prowess. The games are close upon us, and the events I’ve cherished since I was a wee lass are getting me hooked yet again! Therefore, I’m apologizing in advance to all my friends’ ears that I will eventually talk off about the crème de la crème of human strength.
My favorite Olympic sports are gymnastics, diving, swimming and volleyball. The Olympics offers a packaged deal of competitions you rarely have access to watch in the Olympic off-season. And the competitive nature of these athletes increases when they reach this ultimate stage to represent their country, admirably accepting no money to prove that their lifetime of dedication is worth the gold. The event is seriously that high of an honor and…. and I’m obsessed, and… and have I typed your ears off enough?!
Aaaaaaaand I’m not ashamed to admit that the Adonis-clones the event beckons cause me to block out focus on strategy and precision, reducing me to a drooling drone. So let’s all meet at my place on July 27th in the late afternoon? Dinnertime? We shall form our own shameless drool party. (BYOB – bring your own bucket.)
What your favorite Olympic events? Are you looking forward to watching the historic event?

I like to watch the 3-day eventing (the horseback riding) because I ride horses; I also like to watch swimming, solely for getting to look at Michael Phelps :)
I’m also super pumped because I work at an Oakley store, and Oakley is the official eyewear sponsor of the Olympics, so it’ll be really cool to see just about all of the athletes wearing our sunglasses. The company came out with Team USA editions of a couple eyewear styles, and 12% of the proceeds helps benefit the US Olympic and Paralympic teams, which is also way cool. I actually just purchased a pair of the women’s style from the Team USA collection, so needless to say I’m both a sunglasses nerd and an Olympic nerd. Not ashamed at all. Below is a link to the Team USA eyewear from Oakey.com if anyone wants to check it out:

@ask_ashleyyy@xanga - you should check out the modern pentathlon! one of the events is riding, the athletes actually don’t get to know who their horse is until the day of!
I’m ecstatic for athletics (track&field) – higher, faster, stronger! It’s pretty much the only time track&field gets any profile. favourite events to watch include: high jump, 400 hurdles, steeplechase & pole vault

@JoeytheGenie@xanga - I’m definitely gonna have to check that out! At a lot of collegiate IHSA shows, the riders draw horses from the hosting school the day of the show, so that’s actually kind of normal. I’m also going to have to watch the track and field stuff because Lolo Jones is one of the Oakley sponsored athletes, so part of our “job” this summer is to keep track of how our athletes are doing and who’s wearing what type of sunglass

I’m not a sports person but I love the olympics because it’s a friendly competition of the world’s best. It brings the world together too, if only for a few days. The events I watch are gymnastics, swimming & track.

You’re an Olympics fan?! Come be my best friend. I came to London so I could volunteer for London 2012, so I mean, yeah, I’m a teensy bit of an Olympics fan. ;P

Absolutely! Canada loves sports : )

No. I live in England and I’m fed up with it already! There are already problems with transport, security and organising the opening ceremony and the thing hasn’t even started yet!
However, the Olympic Flame is coming past my house in a couple of weeks so I will be be watching that
I think I’d be more excited if it wasn’t all over the news 24/7.

The only one I might watch would be women’s gymnastics. The only reason for that is if my cousin goes to the Olympics again.

More of a Winter Games type. I will be watching the pistol-shooting events, road cycling, and soccer though.

I’m not the biggest fan, since I prefer to watch team sports. The single events… eh, watching some dude swim from one end of a pool to the other, a couple tenths of a second faster than 20 other dudes, and everybody acting like it’s a big accomplishment… doesn’t do much for me. The gymnastics also seems to be pre-judged… the favorites always win, so that’s not too exciting. However, the football will be good to watch some up and coming prospects, and Team USA basketball is sometimes pretty fun. I like it when some of the minor sports (team handball, ping pong, etc) get some press, those are fun to watch.

I also love the opening and closing ceremonies. They are so emotional, together, and ceremonious!

I like watching all the sports because they actually are televised and you’re watching the best of the best play and participate. It’s hard though because they are playing them 24/7 for 2 weeks and you can’t watch all of them at the same time unless you have no life and can glue yourself to a couch
The ones that I really look forward to are swimming, speed walking (it’s funny to watch), equestrian, gymnastics, diving, triathlon, archery, beach volleyball, and martial arts.
