I don’t know about you guys, but summer is never really “endless” for me. While my Facebook feed is full of friends going on lavish vacations, hitting the European countryside, or touring with a band, my summer — and I prefer it this way — is usually spent working. While I love a good vacation, I’ve never understood why everyone wants to get out and about when it’s twice the price and the temperature is ridiculous. Not knocking those who enjoy the on-season, it’s just not for me. But happily I can plan for my (less expensive) vacations from the comfort of my desktop downtime with these (um, gorgeous) five minute getaways. Take a look at some unbelievably beautiful destinations and maybe you’ll get inspired, too.
You know, I hear Bali doesn’t suck. I mean look at that! Check out some more postcard-worthy destinations to whet your jet-setting appetite in the gallery.
What’s the prettiest place you’ve visited?

A few years ago I climbed the Sydney Harbour Bridge at sunset. The most breathtaking thing ever.

The grand canyon, the Scottish countryside, the beaches of Bermuda are all pretty beautiful. Cityscapes can be amazing but the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen have always been in nature.

@AuCinema@xanga - Glad to hear the beaches of Bermuda are as beautiful as they look in pictures…. my fiance & I are getting married there!!
The Grand Canyon and Ireland are the prettiest places I’ve been too. But breathtakingly beautiful. And Ireland has the greenest plants and bluest water I’ve ever seen.

I’ve actually been to a few of these places. The ones in Italy for example, since I lived there for two years and decided to use my time wisely and see everything I wanted to while I had the chance. I’m also moving to Edinburgh in September
I’ve never been there before so I’m really excited. I hear it’s a great city.

I loved New Zealand while I was visiting. I wish I’d had a better camera to take at that time.

@lttlegel - Lucky you! I’m sure your wedding is going to be beautiful.

@AuCinema@xanga - Thank you!! I’m SO excited… though unfortunately it’s not going to be for at least another two years… it’ll take us that long to save up the money. But yes, it will be beautiful!

I’ve been to Prague twice and I’m moving there in September

@emptyabyss@xanga - really? Edinburgh is lovely! I live in England but I’ll be there in September on holiday – you MUST go to the zoo while you’re there, it’s fantastic, and the city is so beautiful.

@daydreams_nightmares@xanga - Yeah, I’ve heard so many good things about the city. My boyfriend just got accepted to the University of Edinburgh and I’m going to go with him and get a job and use the time to finish my research paper. I’m planning to see as much of the city as I can while I’m there and also try to travel abroad as I don’t get many opportunities to travel from where I live now, since flying from Iceland is incredibly expensive.
Where in England do you live? I lived in London a few years ago. What will you be doing in Edinburgh in the fall?
guest
@emptyabyss@xanga - oh wow that’s awesome! Such a good opportunity. I live near Cambridge, about 90 minutes north of London by train. I’m just going up for a holiday – I’m spending a week up in Fort William near where they filmed Harry Potter, then spending a weekend in Edinburgh going to the zoo and seeing the city. I was there last year too and it’s so beautiful, I love it!

The North Pole photo is out of this world!!!! It’s like a Star Wars photo with the moon so huge. You should add New Zealand to that list.
