The latest buzz on the internet has been a wide-spread panic of the imminent zombie apocalypse. Though the panic is completely uncalled for, it never hurts to be ready. Here are five great movies to prepare you for slaying zombies — in style.
1. Zombieland
A fun, comic-book take on a classic scenario, this movie is both action-packed and hilarious. It even gives you tips on how to best stay alive during a zombie attack. (And features the ever-lovely Emma Stone — bonus!)
2. Resident Evil
As the first zombie movie I ever saw (or remember seeing), Resident Evil will always hold a special place in my heart. The premise is based off a popular video game series, and the plot reflects that — in a good way. Plus, Milla Jovovich manages to kick butt in a skimpy red dress and leather boots, and looks fabulous, even after fighting zombies to the death.
3. Shaun of the Dead
This British comedy manages to mix the adventure of a zombie movie in with dry English wit perfectly. It’ll make you laugh, cry, and pee your pants in fright. And, really, there is nothing funnier than watching Simon Pegg outrun the living dead.
4. 28 Days Later
Not your typical zombie movie, 28 Days Later gives a fresh take on an old story. With a great plot and never-ending suspense and action, this movie is a definite addition to any zombie movie collection.
5. Dawn of the Dead
The undisputed best movie of the classic Romero trilogy, Dawn of the Dead takes the lead as the best zombie movie ever made. Terrifying, suspenseful, intriguing — nothing will better prepare you and your friends for the looming apocalypse than this.

Dawn of the Dead brings back many memories of my undergraduate years. I am good to go with my zombie apocalypse plan. I also have a nuclear/biowarfare plan but I’ve had one of those since I was a child.

I love Dawn of the Dead
and Zombieland is such a funny movie! I remembered being scared of my own house after watching Resident Evil when I was a kid. I feel so silly now thinking about it hahaha. The Walking Dead may not be a movie but I’ve definitely been loving that show. I highly recommend it for any horror fans!

I heard The Walking Dead is responsible for Resident Evil and 28 Days Later so that should really be on this list.
Also, Dead Snow. Nazi zombies anyone?

What about the original – NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD. (1968 black & white)
That is what started it all.

@deemure@xanga - The walking dead isn’t a movie, just a tv show.

Depends on what kind of zombies they are. Are they shambling half-decomposed undead like the traditional zombies or are they just really fucked up people like in 28 Days Later? Advantages and disadvantages to both and you’ll need different tactics to deal with each scenario.
Undead and reanimated zombies are usually slow and mindless, but they tend to congregate in large groups and the brain needs to be destroyed to stop them. They also don’t feel pain and have no need to eat or sleep and can theoretically go forever until destroyed.
Zombie-esque people (aka 28 Days Later) are faster and more agile, but since they’re still technically human, you don’t need to aim for the head. They also require sustenance or food and as 28 Days Later showed us, they are entirely capable of starving to death. Jury’s still out on whether or not zombie-esque people can still feel pain (though it appears they at least have a high resistance threshold to it).
Worst case scenario: Undead zombies with the motor skills of people.

@lloydkuhnle@xanga - That movie actually scared the crap out of me when I was 5. (I was at a friend’s house and we were told we weren’t allowed to watch it, and then did anyway after everyone else was asleep.)
@TheDeadWhale@xanga - …I think The Walking Dead is fairly recent, but I could be wrong. The Resident Evil movies are (fairly loosely) based on the video games of the same title, which originated in Japan under the name Biohazard. (The title was changed for marketing reasons, I guess.) IIRC, the movies were even filmed in Japan.
Resident Evil is the only of those that I’ve seen. I get nightmares too easily and hate horror films. I really don’t see how it would prepare you, though, beyond the obvious “shoot them in the head” information.

@VampireOfSeduction@xanga - I should’ve mentioned the books it’s based on, not the recent tv show of it.

@VampireOfSeduction@xanga - NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD also scared the crap out of me the first time I saw it. It was made back in 1968, on a minimal budget of around $110,000. That movie set the zombie rules. THE WALKING DEAD follows those rules to a tee. I’m looking forward to season 3 of THE WALKING DEAD. I think it’s one of the best things on television.

Actually, the Resident Evil movies suck. A lot. That is, if you’ve played the video games. The movie doesn’t do it justice, but only infuriates and annoys me because it’s actually NOTHING like the game. I guess for viewers who haven’t played the game, I could see why they think it’s pretty cool. But, hahaha, believe me, don’t ever tell a Resident Evil gamer that the movie was awesome, ’cause you’ll be just as annoying to them as the movies itself.
Anyway, another good zombie apocalypse movie/show to watch is The Walking Dead, as others have mentioned. Otherwise, just go play Left 4 Dead 1 and 2. That’ll be zombie-infested enough!
