Austin is a beautiful place, and not just because of the nature you find here. As a hotspot for 20-somethings to move post-college, my city is filled with loads of pretty, stylish people. Walking down certain hip streets is often intimidating (in the fashion sense), and don’t even get me started on how amazing everyone else looks during South By Southwest. (Emphasis on “everyone else.” I sadly lack the super-fashionista gene.) So, while I was surprised to see it way at number eight on Travel + Leisure‘s “Best Dressed Cities in America” list, I wasn’t shocked that it made the cut (no thanks to me). Did your city wind up on the list? Find out here!
The magazines asked readers to weigh in on stylishness in their own cities, and here were the results:
Best Dressed:
1. New York City
2. Charleston
3. Los Angeles
4. San Juan, P.R.
5. Miami
6. San Francisco
7. Savannah
8. Austin
9. Dallas/Fort Worth
10. San Diego
This is obviously just a fun, arbitrary list, so no worries if your town didn’t make it. (My hometown, Saint Louis, didn’t!) Or if its on the least stylish list:
1. Anchorage
2. Salt Lake City
3. Baltimore
4. Orlando
5. San Antonio
6. Dallas, Texas (So Dallas/Fort Worth made most stylish, but Dallas alone stinks?)
7. Altlanta
8. Portland, Maine
9. Phoenix
10. Kansas City
Austin aside, I haven’t been to many of the cities on either list, so I have no judgement calls here! I’m sure there are plenty of fashion-forward (and backward) men and women in any city. [via Fashionista]
Did your city make either list? Are you surprised by any of the poll results?

I am actually surprised that Anchorage made the list, but Fairbanks didn’t…or maybe Fairbanks isn’t considered a city on this list.
Anyway, I am from Alaska and Maine, so apparently my lack of fashion isn’t my fault after all? ha ha

Hahah, I’m not surprised that Baltimore is on the least stylish list. It was very trashy there, but where I live now is even worse.

New York City…no surprise there.

I originally am for Chicago. At least that city isn’t on the least stylish list. I moved to Tucson. It’s sooo hot here. I’m havin trouble trying to wear something other than a tank top and flip flops. LOL. It’s been about 100 degrees each day. But I actually kinda like it. I <3 summer.

I knew the first would be NYC, I belong there. I’ve always been a city person without even being born there. I was born in Houston but I lived in a small town until now and noticed that everyone just goes out with their pajamas and slippers on, as well as enormous bubble jackets when it got cold. I was the only one wearing heels, jeans and a t-shirt. I thought “am I overdressed?”, people sometimes gave me weird looks. As the south couldn’t be any worse the weather, I’ll be moving someday.

I live twenty minutes North of the third least stylish city listed. I haven’t seen everywhere else listed, but I think you underestimate Baltimore’s lack of style. Now, I’m no hipster either, but I do dress as one.

Ahh, San Francisco, just surprised it’s not ranked higher. I used feel like people were judging my clothes when I ran to the corner for milk. There are lots of stylish people everywhere…it’s kind of exhausting.

Kansas City. Yes everyone dresses shitty.

I’m from the St. Louis area too. I’d say it’s about half stylish…half not.
where I’m from we had hillbilly’s mixed in with fashionistas and all kinds of stuff. So I would definitely not say we are the most fashionable. I predicted New York, however.

Dissing Baltimore? Please. We all know beehives, leopard print, and cat-eye sunglasses are still in style hahaha
