Feeling bloated is annoying and uncomfortable year-round, but especially so during the summer months. This discomfort can usually be attributed to gas or water retention, and can make even the most physically fit person feel a bit self-conscious. I think we can all agree that feeling bloated typically leads to choosing sweatpants over a bikini. Fortunately, though, there are ways to banish the bloat and feel comfortable in your own skin next time you hit the beach.
One common cause of bloat is the consumption of too many foods that are high in fat and/or salt. Try to steer clear of foods high in sodium, such as processed meats, pickles, ketchup, canned soup, and potato chips. There are also healthy foods known to cause gas, which should also be avoided. These include broccoli, beans, cauliflower, and cabbage. Also avoid carbonated beverages, which contain carbon dioxide and can lead to bloat. Drink water instead!
So, what should you eat to avoid bloat this summer? Check out the gallery for some great snacks that will keep you looking and feeling your best!

Eating watermelon actually makes me more bloated than I otherwise would be.

Skip the dairy and processed foods. Eat fermented foods like sauerkraut or kombucha tea regularly to help your digestion. (Bubbie’s is a good brand for sauerkraut that is actually fermented, not just preserved in vinegar. For kombucha, get some without added sugar.)

I’m just going to say, I’d like to eat what I want because I’ve never noticed a ton of bloating. Even when I get gassy I don’t really get bloated. Either that or I just don’t care enough to notice.
