My large and family and I love to celebrate just about anything. From our root beer float on the last day of school tradition to randomly celebrating Christmas in July one year, we’re always up for fun, food and family time!

So, just when you thought there was nothing to do today, consider this: It’s National Mint Julep Day! It sounds a bit crazy, but apparently there are so many “food holidays” out there that I was completely unaware of. Even though some are silly, like National Rocky Road Ice Cream Day (June 2), it can be a great way to unite friends and do something fun by requiring everyone to bring the designated food to share.

Since I’m always looking for an excuse to celebrate, even if it’s something silly, and summer has just begun, I can’t wait to honor some “food holidays” this season… and hit the gym come September!

I’ve compiled a list of May and June’s national “food holidays” here, starting with today. For a complete list of the entire summer, click here.
