I took dance, and somehow, I managed to avoid this fate. I’m not sure if this wasn’t offered where I took classes, or if my parents just opted out. Either way, I’m glad, because I am the queen of awkward photos. I never know what to do with my face or my arms in full-body shots. I feel like this might be the reason why there aren’t a whole lot of photos of me from when I was a kid.
I don’t know if they tell you how to pose for these pictures or if they just leave you to figure it out, but I cant help but laugh at the stiff awkwardness that exists in almost all dance school photos. I can just picture a 7-year-old me, all decked out in my dance gear, feeling cute…until they tell me to pose. Cue the uncomfortable smile (there might as well be a huge red question mark painted on my face) and sloppy ballet stance.
My dad’s family owned a dance studio for a while, so there are quite a few of these photos floating around of my cousins…but none of me. Thank you mom and dad for not immortalizing my awkwardness in a horrible dance school photo. Check out some ladies who weren’t so lucky, below.
Do you have any dance school photos?

I have at least 17 years of Dance/ Gymnastics photos from my childhood lol, and a few Karate photos. So silly.
We should do a User-Submitted dance photo post. I’m in.

Oh, they are still this awkward, or, they were when I danced (ok, I guess that was going on 15 years ago…I feel old). At least for me, they always told us how to pose, exactly, and it always looked this awful.

OMG THAT LAST ONE IS ME! Bahahahaha jk jk, I don’t think so since I was like 5 when I took ballet. But who knows. If I could have take one I would have been all dramatic with my head thrown back, hand on my brow, other arm in the air with a ridiculous look on my face.. now I kind of wish I took dance when I could actually remember it or have a personality lol.

ROFL!!! I’ve been involved in dance and theater for over 20 years and I have to say these are some of the worst photos I’ve seen. It doesn’t help that the back grounds are so drab. I don’t understand why all the poses have to be so dramatic, why not just a simple graceful pose? My husband does photography and these poses and angles are NOT flattering at all. (never mind the costuming. LOL)
