I went to a school with virtually no reproductive ed, and, growing up, Google was my primary source for learning about the facts of life. I have memories of sneaking into the computer room late at night to look up some unknown reference overheard on TV, and then stealthily deleting my search history before slipping back off to bed. (It wasn’t an ideal situation.) Google (sadly) proved to be a good teacher for me, but I never left my searches imprinted for all the world to see, like some folks on Yahoo Answers. And now, thanks to them, we have some extreme (and funny) examples of people looking to the Internet for answers about HIV, pregnancy and other issues. I really hope that these kids eventually went to a trusted adult and got the advice they needed. I also really, really hope that these questions were from teens, and not adults. Thanks, Yahoo Answers, for making me frightened for the educational future of humanity. Though hopefully these act as evidence for the fact that comprehensive sex ed is very important!
