The US has its fair share of conservatives who bemoan the “sinful” ways of artists like Lady Gaga. With her scant outfits, provocative music videos and overall liberal message, it would be hard to not expect some sort of backlash. But though there are a number of Americans who speak out against the pop star, we’ve never seen massive protests against her concerts. That, it seems, is the job of fundamentalists in Indonesia and the Philippines. Click here to see some signs from their anti-Gaga rallies.
Despite the number of US citizens scandalized by Gaga, conservatives in Indonesia and the Philippines really know how to cause an outcry. Some of these protests even involved singing and candlelight vigils. Gaga’s manager has said she won’t cancel her concerts, and, in fact, ticket sales in Indonesia have risen since the protests. What do you think of these protests?

Well Gaga is quite blasphemous. I could see why some people would have a problem with her. I don’t really think she ever intended to be labeled as Lady ”Satan” Gaga, though.

Filipinos are the most fundamentalist Catholics I’ve ever encountered. I’m not surprised.

I think I just fell in love with Lady Gaga.

I don’t like Lady Gaga because I think she’s kind of fake for my own personal reasons, but I would never protest against her. I’m sure people don’t like some of the music I listen to either, but they aren’t protesting against it. It just seems kind of obnoxious and pointless to protest against something like that.

OH, PLEASE.

Don’t these people have better things to do with their time?

I love Lady Gaga. I don’t understand why some people think she’s devilish or demon-like. Maybe from her song Judas, but that was about the man who betrayed God. She’s never said anything against God either. I really don’t understand the protests.

Don’t they realize that there are a lot more evil people in this world than Lady Gaga? -_-
At least she doesn’t go around telling people to go to hell…

I don’t think I’d actually go so far as to protest Gaga, but I’m not a fan of hers.

I hate LG as much as the next musically savvy person, but come on. This is a bit much.
This kind of shit will only make her MORE popular, you nimrods. I guess she needs all the help she can get to try to keep her waning popularity from completely flat-lining. Oh, well.

LMFAO is all i have to say to that

they’re not protesting against her music generally, i think a lot of religious people seem to find like..anti-religious messages from her..style & some lyrics & especially music videos. she always has upside-down crosses & the like. i have nothing to say about it really, however

@bbanmen420@xanga - yes, thats how its spelled in Bahasa Indonesia.

The concert is officially cancelled in Jakarta, which is a shame because people were given false hopes to see a concert of international size.. with sold out tickets etc.. then told “You know what, we’re not letting Gaga in”. It’s ridiculous. People are NOT going to suddenly become gay/lesbian by listening to her. They will NOT suddenly become an atheist either. Let her sing her mind, and let the people make their own decisions.
I’m not a fan either but i find some of her songs catchy…
Those ‘conservatives’, however, are deemed as pretentious by the non-conservatives in Indo.. so.. this is not a generalization.

meh she’s a wannabe Marilyn Manson

@waldesau@xanga - upside down crosses are actually VERY religious in the christian perspective though, because they are symbolic of St. Peter, who asked to be crucified upside down. *shrug* seems to me that any hardcore religious nut like these people would know that though…

@labyrinthbound08@xanga - it’s not just that. she has a lot of “satan” symbols and what not… yeah, it’s mostly said by people who over-read things and such. i’m not saying i agree with them, only stating what i think the reasons are for this
