Dazed and Confused’s June issue features one of the coolest editorials ever: models made to look like, well, paintings.

Models Ava Smith, Codie Young and Madison Headrick look more like 1960s department store ads than real people, and the ladies look stunning as real life paintings.

The shoot was based on the work of fashion illustrator René Gruau. I absolutely love all the side views of the models. At first glance, I actually thought that these were drawings instead of photographs. Though from the front they look a little like mimes, the entire editorial together is one of the most amazing I’ve ever seen. The concept and overall effect, I think, are extremely strong and definitely capture the “illustrated” feel. The original editorial, which can be seen here, shows a bit of nudity. And, though tasteful, I think that it takes away from the concept behind the shoot, and especially from the makeup.

Lovelies, what do you think of the makeup on the models? Do you like the concept or do you think it misses what it’s trying to do?
