The ’90s grunge look has been making a come back these past few seasons. Which, if you ask me, is one of the better ’90s fads. I don’t mind the oversized flannel thrown over a tiny flower printed baby doll dress with Doc Martens look. In fact, it’s a look I do often. So contrary to popular belief, not all ‘90s fashion was so bad that it couldn’t be resurrected.
However, I thank my lucky stars that some of the trends I actually wore constantly (shame) in the ’90s have not made a come back. Tiny, all over the head buns for one… at the time I was super into Bjork and I was all about the futuristic hairstyle in her ‘Big Time Sensuality‘ video. I now know that there was nothing futuristic about it, at least I hope. Here are some more trends I would be happy to see stay in the past.
Leggings with Pucci-esque print.
Clarissa was the coolest. Blossom and her were my style icons as a kid. If Clarissa was wearing Pucci-inspired leggings, odds are I wanted them. If you ask me today what I think of Pucci-esque prints, I’d have to say that they are my least favorite patterns ever created.
That short sleeved tee over long sleeved tee thing.
I have no idea why, but I still find myself wanting to do this and I’ll have to slap myself on the wrist. It’s just awkward. If you must wear your favorite tee when the weather is not permitting, please put on a cardigan or something. Even a flannel if you’re trying keep it ’90s. Remember how they made shirts that were like this, no actual layers, just long sleeves sewn into short sleeves? (LOL)
Tight mesh printed shirts.
First of all, I had something like this and I never wore it because the fabric felt weird. I remember it having absolutely no give or stretch, so you can forget about being comfortable post cafeteria lunch. Second of all, no. Just no.
I dare you to mention this trend to your hair dresser if you want to see them cringe. I have had so many conversations about this popular ’90s trend (unfortunately) in the salon with fellow stylists. We all agree, It ranks up there for worst ever, right beside the mullet.
Tinted sunglasses.
Oh the shame!! I had every color of the rainbow, not to mention a couple pairs of those holographic sunglasses. Actually, the hologram glasses are still kinda cool, but no one should literally view the world through oblong or circle shaped rose-colored glasses.
Were you a victim of any of these 90′s trends?

I dig the tinted sunglasses.

@ShimmerBodyCream@xanga - Somewhere deep in my heart, I do too. The 90′s were really so awesome.

I did most of them…and I still like them!

I’m a little concerned that the grunge look is acceptable, and that you think the hologram glasses are cool but not tinted shades. It might not be as obvious as bright blue sunglasses, but all sunglasses have a tint, and most of them are different. I also see men do the short sleeve long sleeve thing all the time still. The hair thing can definitely stay in the 90′s, along with that terrible print. Its too bad leggings didn’t stay in the 80′s.

I still wear the t-shirt over long sleeves. It’s great in the winter when it’s freezing. I’m not a cardigan person so I prefer to do this.

I wear long sleeves under my tshirts in the fall and spring. I have a few basic black/grey long sleeve shirts, and I can throw any tshirt over it and be good to go. Was that ever a “trend”? I just thought it was practical and comfortable. My hair is naturally curly – and unless I abuse it with a straitening iron, it’s always going to look “90′s”. Sorry.

The curls are actually not bad to have come back. I did the tinted sunglasses!

I still do alot of these but hey I’m a 90′s kid so sue me
funny…i have my hair in the “head buns” look right now. But I call it Bantu Knots and it looks more like this http://www.loveofhair.com/Emailed/bantu2.JPG

the long-sleeve/short-sleeve thing was a 90s trend? i didn’t see anyone do that until i was in high school. i still do it for practical reasons and couldn’t care less if it’s trendy.

Hahahaha aahhh.

Oh agree with these so hard. All terrible, but it was fun while it lasted though.

The short sleeve over long sleeve thing was so big in my town, and people still do that shit lol.
guest
Awww mann, I want some colour-tinted sunglasses now… hahahaaa!

I’m still guilty of the long-sleeves under short sleeves thing.
guest
People still wear the short sleeved shirts over long sleeved shirts….

i still wear short sleeves over long sleeves.

I say bring it on to the short/long sleeve trend, tinted sunglasses, and both the hair trends.
Yeah I know.

I like the short/long sleeve trend and still do it (not as much as before but when its practical and comfortable, I do it). I didn’t do the hair trends or tinted glasses thing. I rarely wear leggings (never really liked them except to put them under a dress or skirt, which I do sometimes even today). I also bought the mesh shirt but only wore it once for the same reason you stated…

The color-tinted sunglasses, done in normal colors like light pink or blue are still acceptable, IMO.

The tee shirt thing doesn’t bother me if it’s done right. But I agree with everything else on this list. My least favorite trend of the 90′s was boots with EVERYTHING. Watched a 90′s movie with Meg Ryan, she was wearing an evening gown for a gala and had brown boots for shoes. No, just no.

Oh, Gosh that’s the MK and Ashley I grew up with. I envied their style. Even those tinted sunglasses

I do short sleeves over long sleeves, but it’s usually in the fall/winter and my long sleeves are usually Under Armour becasue I’m doing physical activity…

The short sleeves/long sleeves thing was more an early 2000′s thing I think. It was really popular when I was thirteen/fourteen and that was 2003/2004. Curly hair – my hair looks like that naturally, and in summer, I’m not going to spend twenty minutes roasting myself using straighteners just to get it not looking “awful” as you put it.

I can’t hate, I love all of these trends still haha.

I have to have the odd tinted glasses to read. I cringe at the thought of having to wear them because of the 90′s trend when I was a kid. haha.

@flapper_femme_fatale@xanga - I was a freshman in High school in 1996…so ya…it was a 90s trend…I did it all the time…
guest
@shondadiane@xanga - weird. i never saw anyone do it til i was a sophomore, in 2001.

I miss every single one of these things. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE.
Forget this. I’m bringing it all back. Everybody can just deal with it!

I wear long sleeves under my t-shirts all the time. This trend never went away, I’m not sure why you think it did. I know tons of people besides myself that still do it, and from the other comments, it isn’t just my circle, either.
