Saturday Night Live usually ends with the host surrounded by the cast, musical guests, and any other guests, wishing the viewers goodnight and saying various thank-you’s. This past Saturday’s show was no different, except that the stage was fuller than normal, with many SNL alum and others honoring and saying goodbye to Kristen Wiig. This Saturday was Wiig’s last show after 7 years.
SNL rounded out the night with a last skit saying goodbye to Wiig. Host Mick Jagger, each cast member, and finally producer Lorne Michaels danced with Wiig and said their goodbyes during an emotional sing along to the Rolling Stone’s classics “She’s a Rainbow” and “Ruby Tuesday.”
Recently in an interview on Alec Baldwin’s radio show Here’s The Thing, Wiig stated about leaving the show: ”I will say that when I do leave it’s not because I’m sick of it and not because I see something better or anything like that. It’s just that it’s time. When I do leave, it will be the hardest thing. I mean, you know. You’re there for a week and on Saturday night you’re sad because you leave these people. This is my seventh year and that’s my family. It’s my heart. It’s New York to me.”
Andy Sambery and Jason Sudekius have been said to also be leaving the show, although for now the story is just a rumors. I’m sad there is potentially going to be a huge gap in the SNL cast lineup next year, but also excited to see many new faces on the show!
I’ll especially miss my favorite Wiig characters:
Gilly
“Sorry!”
Target lady
“Does heaven have a Target?”
Penelope the one-upper
“I was speeding so fast I broke the sound barrier sooo…”
What’s your favorite Kristen Wiig character or impersonation?

Definitely Penelope the one upper!! Sad to see her go. I usually watch SNL based on who’s hosting because I think they show isnt as good as it used to be (but still tons better than a lot of crap out now!!) but she was great!

@shelby - I’ll check those out, thanks!! Usually if I really like them I buy them from itunes. It’s just a shame that when you buy SNL on DVD or itunes, they cut out the music performances because of copyrights & junk. Some of the best live performances are done on that show & you’re considered MADE if you perform on there.
