Most stars do not do their own stunt work. Some have totally gone for it, but mostly all the big movie stars have stunt doubles (even if they do their own stunts from time to time). I admire these people because basically, they just go in and do all the wicked awesome/dangerous stuff but take very little credit. I’m not sure if there is some type of award ceremony for stunt doubles, but I’m thinking maybe there should be.
Stunt doubles run the risk of seriously injuring themselves for the sake of film and art, and we barely see them (or notice them, or remember they exist). I think it’s pretty dang cool that they do it anyways, but here’s the thing… I want to see them because they totally look like bizarro versions of the celebs themselves. Fun Stuff.

Why am I doubtful that some of these people were the actual stunt doubles of said actor/actress…?

I saw the Black Swan stunt double and all I could think is that it is sad that Natalie Portman is thinner than her actual ballet dancer stunt double. I know she did it for the role, but still.
guest
Wow.. they look nothing like their counterparts lol. But then, you don’t really need to see their faces & they can do anything with computers, but when they’re running & jumping around I suppose you never really see the face, do you?
guest
I think people should do their own stunts, honestly. >_
I’m curious about Jennifer Lawrence now though.
guest
I thought those were just two Brad Pitts at first haha.

@H2O_mElOnGeEk@xanga - Can I ask why you feel that way? I hear people say that sometimes and I’ve never gotten it. What difference does it make whether someone does their own stunts?
guest
@emptyabyss@xanga - Well, to me personally it makes no difference at all, but in my opinion the concept is stupid. If you are an actor or an actress then acting the role is your job. You don’t go into a job interview and say, “well, I’ll do this task, this task, but you’ll have to hire anoherworker to do this task, okay? I don’t want to; that part of my expectations aren’t glamourous or easy enough”.
As an actor it’s YOUR job to play the part, if you’re unwilling to do all that comes with it and run extra miles for it then you shouldn’t have the part.

@H2O_mElOnGeEk@xanga - I actually dated a stunt double and it’s not quite as easy as you put it. Stunts require a lot of work and skill that many actors don’t have–like parkour and gymnastics and other similar aerobics. Not only could an actor harm him or herself attempting to do such stunts, but unless they actually specialize in it, they won’t know how to do them any better than you and I. A stunt double is better equipped and less likely to get injured based on the fact that they actually know what they are doing.

Am I the only one who finds it hilarious that J.Lo’s stunt double is a man?

@ask_ashleyyy@xanga - I was gonna ask if that was a man or not! haha Sometimes on the Disney Channel shows you can tell a stunt double is a man for a girl.

@H2O_mElOnGeEk@xanga - You have to have specialized training to be a stunt double. I don’t think actors should go through that training unless they want to be stunt doubles.
guest
@stupid_plum@xanga - Exactly. Anyone who thinks or wishes actors did their own stunts needs to seriously rethink their logic on that one. I mean, think of all the different roles actors take on – Could you seriously expect one to learn how to perform motorcycle jumps, then move on to a film where they need to be a boxer? That, I think, would be so time consuming on its own – But then they still need to focus on the actual acting.

@Ms_Lola_Mae@xanga - She is not a ballerina. Ballerinas have a lot of muscle mass. Dancing in general takes a lot of muscle mass. Being 90lbs is not a requirement of being a ballerina. Dancing correctly is. Common misconception.

@TiredSoVeryTired@xanga - It has been done before. I have heard of tv shows and movies being produced and the only people who could get parts were the ones qualified to do the parts. (Example: Dance Academy, all actors and actresses in it HAD to be like pro ballerinas.) In my opinion, it does nothing but enhance the production and makes what can be done in movies almost limitless, while directors won’t have to be hiding and putting stunt doubles in less obvious places, etc.
And one thing I absolutely do not care for it the possibility of being trained being “hard”. I don’t give a dannn if it’s a little more difficult, if you aren’t willing to run the extra miles for your career, then you shouldn’t have the job. Period.

and I think people need to understand that I’m not saying that stunt doubles like infuriate me or anything, I’m just saying that not having them would enhance the production.
1.) The one thing I’ve learned in drama class is that to act you have to “make yourself believe it’s real”, and when that happens you do a much better job. If the real actors and actresses were doing it then it WOULD be “real” to them, and theoretically that would make the performance much more believable and better for the production as a whole.
2.) Directors could spent less time worrying about making stunt doubles unnoticeable. You could get much better views of what the actors are doing in the movie.
Overall it would make productions better, but it’s not like something I expect. It’s kind of like wanting a 100% success rate in school, probably not going to happen, but it would still make things better if it could. I’m more speaking on wishful speaking terms than realistic terms, and I am aware of that, but no amount of realistic terms will make it not factual that productions could be better without them.
So er’body needs to chill.

@H2O_mElOnGeEk@xanga - It’s entertainment. Who the heck really cares? You can’t expect professionally trained ballet dancers to be actors any more than you can expect actors to be professionally trained ballet dancers. Thank God for stunt doubles anyway, I don’t Orlando Bloom to ruin his pretty face by actually sword fighting every single time!

@blackspiders@xanga . @stupid_plum@xanga - Two words: Dance Academy.
Solves every problem you just listed.
guest
@TiredSoVeryTired@xanga - That doesn’t change the fact that the production *could* be better. That’s all I’m saying.
Thank you for not listening to what I just said.

@H2O_mElOnGeEk@xanga - I don’t think movies would be better at all if we forced actors to do stunts they aren’t trained for or forced people to act, when they can’t, just because they can do a stunt. I’m sure directing and producing would be a nightmare!
guest
@chell_kicks_08@xanga - Um…DUH. I know all of that. Lol. But since classical ballerinas have a 25% chance of developing anorexia when the general population has only a 1% chance, my comment was not unfounded.
guest
@Ms_Lola_Mae@xanga - Good. Glad you are not a statistic.
guest
@H2O_mElOnGeEk@xanga - I disagree with you. The reason why they don’t do it is because if they get hurt they get taken off the movie or the movie is put on hold for them and that loses major money.
guest
@H2O_mElOnGeEk@xanga - I don’t think you understand how difficult doing some of these stunts is. These types of things require years of training. There are people who dedicate their lives to perfecting this art. You cannot expect a doctor who specializes in hearts to know the brain, the same way an actor would not know stunts.
Granted, there are some actors who do their own stunts and kudos to them. In a perfect world, I agree, it would be nice to see actors do their own stunts. In terms of practicality though, it’s just not feasible.
Anyway, not trying to argue here. I’m thinking I see your point now. Pip pip!

Jackie Chan does his OWN stunts. LOL American actors…

ohhhhh gosh
guest
@prexskinny@xanga - what makes you say that? it’s possible some of them could be stand-ins, used for camera tests and such before filming.
guest
I think it’s neato to see them chillin’ with their doubles!
guest
@stringstomyheart@xanga - that made me lol..

Look-alikes next!

Zoe Bell, the woman who did stunts for Xena is the same woman who did Uma Thurman’s stunts in Kill Bill. There’s a documentary about her called “Double Dare” on Netflix.
