Kate Middleton’s style is always fashionable, but never really out-of-the-ordinary. Which is why it was interesting to see her in an eye-catching teal gown at a gala last week. But is her outfit choice gorgeous and trendsetting, or flashy and tacky?
Middleton accented the Jenny Packham gown with shiny shoes, a matching clutch and a braided updo, which showed off its sheer back detail. Her look has been getting a lot of positive attention on style blogs; I wonder if that means we’ll seeing the Duchess in brighter outfits more often? [via Fashionista]

Hit! A hint of sexy with the sheer back detail but prim and proper with the bows. Like jeezshoua said, could be improved with a contrasting clutch, maybe to match the shoes rather than the dress.

Hit. I think she sticks to fashionable but not out of the ordinary choices because she is a Royal and people follow her. I’m pretty sure she’d rather people focus on what she does instead of what she wears.

This is a bit tacky in my opinion. Especially the gown’s color paired with glittery shoes – I can see it being interpreted as prom fashion.
If the gown was in black, it would have been a better choice.

I love it. I don’t love the shoes very much and a woman with slightly bigger boobs would look better, but she still looks amazing anyway

HIT! Although, I do agree that she could’ve used a different color for the clutch in order to make the color more vibrant and exciting. Teals a lovely color, and I think that she wears it well

I think it’s pretty. I would have liked it more in a navy blue or deep purple, but it’s still a stunning dress. I have to say she’s a style icon for me. I love how modest ad classy she dresses. It’s old school, but not like she’s 60 years old. She is just a gorgeous woman.
