With the craziness of school, work and home life, it’s difficult to maintain a healthy diet — especially breakfast. Most of us grab something quick and run out the door or worse, go through a drive-thru.
After searching and sampling the different and quick breakfast options, I’ve made a list of 5 of my favorite to-go breakfast foods that not only help to keep your waistline down, but get you out of the door on time.
Kashi 7 Grain Waffles with Maple Syrup
I love waffles and they’re so quick and easy to make. Also, the maple syrup has fewer calories than honey or regular syrup.
Chobani Greek Yogurt with Granola & Fruit
I love Greek yogurt and with a sprinkle of Bear Naked granola, it’s a great breakfast on the run!
Hard Boiled Eggs & Fruit
This breakfast involves planning ahead, but it is one of the best in my book. Boil eggs the night before and keep an apple on hand; grab the next morning before running out the door and you are good to go!
Whole Wheat Bagel with Peanut Butter
These are healthier than regular bagels and yummy with peanut butter that is packed with protein!
Egg McMuffin from McDonald’s
If you insist on going through a drive-thru, this is a great and much healthier option then the other items on the menu – and at only 300 calories!
While these options aren’t 100% great for you, they are definitely better than the many other alternatives out there.
What are your favorite healthy to-go breakfasts?

Instant oatmeal: Oats are one of THE most healthy things you can eat for breakfast! High in fibre and protein, and will keep you going until lunch. Eat it with some fruit, and you are a super healthy person!

A hard-boiled egg and a green smoothie is what I have nearly every morning. Sometimes some bacon, and sometimes I trade the egg out for mini frittatas.

I usually have some yogurt, tea, if I have more time a hard boild egg

my favorite breakfast is not healthy at all, the Southern girl in me loves biscuits with syrup. My second favorite breakfast is steel cut (Irish) oatmeal with nuts and fruit. My go to breakfast is a whole wheat English muffin.

I don’t eat hard-boiled eggs, but my mom buys them in a bag! Eggland’s Best brand sells them at Sam’s Club & BJs, but you may be able to find them elsewhere. These are good options though-I’ve been trying to figure out a healthier breakfast lately so this is a helpful list of things to try!

All of these are high in fat and will make you fat.

@ShimmerBodyCream@xanga - Fat does not make you fat. Excess calories make you fat. Fat is one of the best things you can eat – it preserves brain function, lubricates your joints and keeps you feeling full for longer. Please lrn2nutrition

I usually eat hot oatmeal (not the instant kind, I buy the cheap quaker oats in the huge bin) with cinnamon and raisins. Sometimes I add honey or almonds.
If not, I eat a bowl of cereal or sometimes a piece of whole wheat toast with peanut butter and honey.
I also like scrambled eggs and orange juice if I’m hungover.

@haleymroach@xanga - Bad fat is the worst thing you can eat. It can clog your arteries, etc. Fat is calorie dense. Right fats in moderation are okay, fats from eggs, cheese, yogurt, peanut butter = bad.
guest
@ShimmerBodyCream@xanga - Are you actually kidding? No, the only fats that are “bad” are unnatural fats like the kind that come in margarine. Trans fat.
guest
@haleymroach@xanga - No. Saturated fat is bad for you as well. Read some nutrition studies, medical textbooks, etc.

Breakfast food is the BEST <3
guest
@haleymroach@xanga - lol, saturated fat is bad for you too. Foods which are high in saturated fat are not good for you, and they’re linked to heart disease and cancer.

http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/dairy-and-egg-products/117/2 An egg has TWO grams of sat fat and SIX grams of protein, as well as lots of vitamins (including metabolism-important B12). No one is suggesting eating a whole dozen eggs for breakfast, maybe one or two, and probably not every day. Your body can handle that.
Oh, and natural peanut butter (peanuts & salt) e.g. Smuckers has 2.5 g sat fat, but 12.5 g poly- and mono-unsaturated fats (i.e. good fats, from what I recall). Also 7 g protein. Again, good outweighs the bad if consumed in moderation. http://www.smuckers.com/products/ProductDetail.aspx?groupId=2&categoryId=11&flavorId=65

@galliver@xanga - ”Your body can handle that” =/= healthy. You should steer clear of animal products because of the saturated fat/cholesterol that can do long term damage.
Also, most popular commercial brands of peanut butter that people buy contain trans fat as well as saturated fat. That’s a big double no no.

@ShimmerBodyCream@xanga - Oh dear, are you a vegan? I have no common language with vegans. My nutritionist told me to keep eating meat and eggs and dairy, so I think I’ll trust her advice.
As for “=/= healthy” I’m quite certain that the vast majority of foods have a ‘fatal flaw.’ e.g. fruit is full of vitamins, but high in sugar. That kind of thing; no one food or food group even is nutritionally well-rounded.
The gist of the post was to suggest breakfasts that were nutritionally sound; that means including carbs, fat, and protein. While I’m not sure about the maple syrup or the McD’s, I thin the other three options are perfectly sound in this regard, as well as providing vitamins and minerals. In fact, have all three regularly and feel great until lunch when I do.

@galliver@xanga - The fact I’m vegan doesn’t have anything to do with eggs, saturated fat, and trans fat being unhealthy. You could eat a copious amount of fruit with no ill effects, with eggs you risk heart disease, stroke, etc. That’s why Harvard and basically all mainstream health agencies recommend a plant based diet.

@ShimmerBodyCream@xanga - If it was mainstream advice I would have happened across it, and I have not, except as non-mainstream/vegan community advice. The fact that you’re vegan may not stem from health considerations, but you clearly buy into a perspective/philosophy that espouses that theory of nutrition, if you will. And I don’t, which makes it pointless for us to discuss it further.
What I have read says there is support out there for both sides at the moment; that medical science is starting to change their point of view on the issue of animal products. Guess we’ll see how it plays out.

Not necessarily true, you could just be ignorant. Ex: American Cancer Society,
American Diabetes Association,
,American Heart Association
all recommend meatless Monday, Harvard Medical School’s recommendation on eating a plant based diet, Dr Oz (tv show doctor) recommends a plant based diet

Ad hominem. Me being vegan has no bearing on the fact that trans/saturated fat is unhealthy. Esp considering I also said people shouldn’t be eating peanut butter as well which is vegan.

@ShimmerBodyCream@xanga - If you feel the need to throw around words like ‘ignorant’ in a civil discussion, I have no need to talk or listen to you further, which I was trying to avoid at any rate. Thanks for the information sources.
guest
@galliver@xanga – Ignorant was a good word to use in that context, if you don’t want a discussion and wanted to avoid talking to me you shouldn’t have replied to a comment I left.

@TheMushyPear@xanga - No. I ate your mother already.
